500lb General Purpose Bombs

Post by Bombcat » Thu Feb 10, 2011 10:15 pm

As of February 2011, the 500lb GP bomb is the most powerful standard weapon in the YS arsenal. Highly accurate, easy to use, and easy to haul, this weapon is a favorite for dive bombing type attacks.

When the aimer is on the target, drop, roll 90 degrees and pull hard. This way no altitude is gained so AAA can't hit you, and you are also safe from your own bomb.
This tactic works well with the 500lb bomb as well.

That is why you pull hard, this causes your flight path and the bombs to diverge. The distance between the bomb and yourself should be sufficient. This is good, unless you go too low and crash, or too high and get ht by AAA.

I usually use the "pitch up" bombing tactic because the old Soviet -i.e.; Su-17- aircraft was designed for it.
