Linux installation guide

Post by Phoenix »

YSFlight is also available on the Linux operating systems. Although this was compiled on Ubuntu, YS Flight has no issue with other versions.

The installation process is stunningly simple:

1). Download YS from ysflight.com.
2). Extract it using any available program capable of opening .zip files - I use ark myself - into the desired folder.
3). Done!

Linux Addon Issues:

Flying YS on linux is fun, its a blast! But you do find a few issues.

As (unfortunately) the majority of people work on windows, it is often the case that errors downloaded cause errors on YS.

to correct this you must do the following:
1). Check the routes! You must see that the locations described in the .lst files match those in reality, else the file will not be found. also check that files are put in the correct folders (usually the download will have these as sub folders to tell you where they should go in the main folder).

2). Check the cases. If a file name has an upper/lower case and the .lst has the opposite, you wont be able to run the file. Just correct the cases of either. This includes the section of the name that is the file type (eg: Change .DAT to .dat).

3). Change the backslashes to forward slashes.

4). If this is still going wrong, it is likely due to the order of files in the folder. Sadly it is difficult to correct for this, as the list must not be changed in this manner (here is why If you want to know: http://forum.ysfhq.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=3918).

I hope this has helped you with correcting any errors you have, and I hope that you can now enjoy your flight.
