[LINUX]YSFlight 20130805 (Rev. 2249) - some regressions

Hi guys,

I have an issue with the latest version (see in the subject) of YSFlight for Linux (64 bit): whenever I join a server I have to wait a whole lot of time to log in (after 10-15 minutes I give up). This I compare with the previous ysflight version (some version from 2012). Maybe it's worth mentioning that I have about 3GB of addons. Still, it's a regression from my point of view since in my previous installed ysflight things went faster!

Another thing would be the UI: it's slower and uglier than the ncurses-like from the old YSFlight versions and the key combinations don't work anymore (e.g.: N, C: Network-Client)

And finally, whenever I am lucky enough to finally log in on a server and I start flying whenever I start typing in the chat the whole graphics 'stutter'.

All of these were tested with the 'ysflight2' binary.
The hw setup is: CPU: Intel P8600 (2.4Ghz), RAM: 4GB DDR3 (800Mhz), GPU: Nvidia 9600M GS
OS: Rosa Linux, 64 bit, nvidia driver (331.20).

If I can help you with any logs/traces please tell me and I'll gladly provide them.

Quick update!

Use case:
- log into the cvw171 server -> waited 20+ minutes didn't manage to log in
- the whole system started to drag, checked process status:
PID user PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
14821 emeric 20 0 4368m 2.8g 19m S 4 71.4 9:45.51 ysflight2

Is it a memory leak or the ysflight tries to load the whole addon stuff into memory?

I see, the thing is that on an older version of YSFlight things went just fine, I had <5 minutes login time on any server. My internet connection speed doesn't matter in my case since I have a good one (as you can see in the dedicated topic).

In my humble opinion -- even it will be a tough task -- I would rather change the whole on-line mechanism part of YSFligh or optimize the current one if feasible. Since the YSFlight on-line community has grown pretty well this aspect is an important one so we can fly together no matter the geographical location. Also, the on-line capability of YSFlight is the main vector which made YSFlight popular and should not be neglected.

Another update: downloaded a fresh copy of ysflight for Linux (64 bit), no addons, only default planes and settings; passed 10 minutes already and I didn't finished logging in to the cvw-171st server; same on the 42south server.

Not sure what to tell you, I know that the 42 south and 171st server have a lot of addons. Ill work on reducing the amount of addons on the 171st. Currently at 2.38GB, i will also change the time for a reset to two hours.

***Edit*** ill keep the reset time to three hours... cant do two.

Also, it is not running the 2013 version of server. Its using the previous one, i call it 2012.. but i think its 2011..something. The new version of server doesn't reset for some reason.

If you need my help troubleshooting this issue let me know, ill be glad to help.

The latest 2013 YSFlight Server has a leak in it somewhere, which drasticly slows/stops login speed.

I strongly suggest you use the next earliest YSF version for any servers you are running.

In my tests I was referring only to the YSFlight client, not the server, but yes, it's a good thing to know!

The server will thus affect the clients. So what I'm saying is yes, the client is not logging in properly etc, and this is because of the latest server.

You will need to down grade to resolve. ;)
