Need tech help: Port Forwarding trouble

Post by Neocon »

I forwarded the port 7915 through my Netgear DSL modem/router to my PC and in Avast Firewall (I have a free year that came with my newegg order). Windows Firewall told me Avast was in charge and I couldn't seem to make any changes there.

Despite all of this, my server is not working. I have tried both OYS and the stock console.

Can anybody think of anything I might have missed? When I set up my old computer using MR's post, it went through with no problem. I can't figure this thing out.

Try the steps listed in the Avast (first) section here (except look for the YSFS .exe instead of Muir).

Yep, that's one of the things I found, and followed those steps.

If you are running Windows 10 you SHOULD NOT be running a third party anti-virus program.

Windows Defender and all its components are by far the best available anti-malware solution available on the consumer market due to the fact that it is the only one that gets full access to the Windows Kernel.

Yeah, that's what I have also, though I installed it when it was Microsoft Security Essentials. Between that and Malwarebytes, I'm covered.

I still haven't quite given up on this. I have been trying new things. I got rid of Avast, for several reasons, so I'm now just working with Windows Defender. I forwarded port 7920 (just to test a different port). When i use an Open Port Check Tool, it times out. Just as a test, I turned the Windows Defender firewall completely off and retested the port. Instead of timing out, it failed completely. When I turned the firewall back on, it went back to time outs.

Does that mean anything? I really want to get YSCAS working again on my computer.

A couple of things I can think of (you may have already done one/more of these so disregard if it doesn't apply). Call your ISP for help on the issue (I know, you don't exactly have rave reviews about your ISP but try it anyway), someone there might be able to help. It sounds like there is a setting with your new install that probably needs changing, a TCP/IP protocol, or something with the ethernet card itself. Also check port 7915 with the Open Port Tool, see what that brings up. Usually it's some setting to do with internet protocols that prevents the server from accepting requests.
