Air Race server : interest survey

Hello everyone. I've recently come to the conclusion that YS lacks air races events, so I've been thinking of hosting a dedicated race server and organizing events myself. I'm now seeking the opinion of the community to know if there's enough interest for such a server. If this is to happen, it won't be within the next 60 days for sure. I will soon have a new computer (It will be a mega beast), but my brother have to build it first, It will take time. Then the computer I'm using right now will be used solely as a server, for YS and other games (such as DOSBox games :P )

Here are the features I can think of now:

-Server will probably be up 24/7
-Maps used will be race maps (Air AND ground races, will rotate maps the same way Dan rotates the civil aviation maps on VAS). Maybe some generous map modder could create a few new racetracks :) I will gladly host them.
-small selection of aircrafts will be installed containing all genre of aviation. I intend to race all kinds of aircrafts(jet fighters, sinlge prop aerobatics, single/twin props civil aviation, military heavies and logistics, Airliners, helo, ect). No Cheatplane.

EVENTS

-Spontaneous single races (air and ground)
-Championships (air and ground)
-Will be my pleasure to host any events the YS community can throw, but I have in mind especially the MOTO GP races :), It suits so well the purpose of the server.
-Group mass flights
-Occasionnal ATC sessions

About races:

-2 types of air races:

#1 Checkpoint race: Checkpoint objects to pass through, small to medium sized with simple layout, 2-5 laps, appropriate for: Aerobatic, jet fighter, helo

#2 Cannonball Run: Can be done on any map containing at least 2 airports or major landmarks, Medium to large sized, always starts and end landed and stopped, Waypoints will be specific runways we have to touch-and-go on, appropriate for: jet fighters, airliners, military heavies, general aviation.

Would any of you participate in such events? What advice can you give me about successful server hosting? Maps and aircrafts suggestion? Any tips and comments would be appreciated ! Thank you!

I know that there is some interest in some air races in YS flight from an attempt of mine to start an air racing system, but I can't vouch for anybody. If I ever got around to fixing my YS install, I'd probably be interested in participating.

Ok cool thx for your reply and interest. I just looked at your YS Air Racing topic. That looks pretty nice, but I'll go with something a lot simpler :) I like the rules tho and I might be inspired by some of the stuff in that post, thanks for telling me. The main difference with your league is that my goal is rather to remove the aircraft from the equation, and test only piloting and navigational skills. Therefore, everybody will always use the same aircraft during a race, whatever may it be. We could vote on the aircraft to use, or go for the ''winner picks'' formula.

For championships, we will fly 4 categories of aircrafts: Aerobatic, general aviation, jet fighter, helicopter (any category can be flown in a spontaneous single race :) )
One race and category per week (like, every 1st sunday of the month it's the aerobatic race, 2nd sunday it's general aviation and so on), and a season will last 6 months. The number of points gained by each victory remains to be determined. Maybe championship races could be implemented in airshows, if their organizer don't have any trouble with that :D

server settings:
Daytime - Wind 2 knts - weapons disabled - Blackout enabled - Show username 4000M - Inactive ground objects - F3 view avalaible - radar alt. 0M - No radar gunsight - Server reset 3 hours - YSchat - Collisions ENABLED (I'm not so sure about that tho...)

Rules:
You are expected to take-off/apply full throttle only when given the signal to do so. Some races may have a flying start were we need to do a pace lap before starting. Failure to respect this rule results in a penalty (remains to be determined) after a verification of the replay by officials.

You are expected to know the track enough not to crash. If you do so, you are disqualified. It is recommended that you practice before showing up to the race(cuz I will 8-) ).

You are expected to have fun!

And that's what I got so far. Still have to determine the exact aircrafts and maps I will want to install, amongst other things.

Got a pretty good idea of the maps I will be using:

MH3W Air Race 1/2/3
KZS Circuit (tight, MBX, Suzuka, Monte Carlo, Spa, Monza, Silverstone)
KZS Practice Course
[Y.V] Canyon Race
Formula Hog Town
Formula Afghanistan
Vuelo Beach
Vuelo Racing
Phillip Island 0700
YSGP 2011 :Canyon Race - Medium Track - North City
Oh! Race In The Sky
Major's Lybia

Am I missing anything out?

*EDIT: Plus a few stock maps off course
EDIT 2: added Lybia map in the list

I'm happy with the positive response and I will go forward with this. Still have to sort out a few problems with my computer before setting this all up. I don't have a precise date to give, but... soon :) (a few weeks).

In the meantime, I've develloped a nice layout on CP's server. I'll post some pics later (at work right now). If you see me on CP's, let's race a bit :)

Until server is up, practice this!

Start from scenic 1 or 2.

Corners may be cut to enter the blue structures, but not to exit. Cut corner here.

The exterior line tunnel may also be used. Cut corner here.

Have you tried my Lybia map?
It has a racing track in the South. Can easily be copied to a smaller scale map if you like, and simply consists of mountains with AAA on the top (to keep you low).

This trial map is Hawaii?
Which download is that? I want to give it a whirl with a PC-7 too!

I did not try the Libya map. I will add it to the list of maps, Thanks for pointing it out :)

As for this layout, it is stock hawaii on CP's server, he placed those objects in his server. Therefore, this can only be done there: cpfunhouse.no-ip.biz
The RNAF PC-7 is from your pack, I think?

Post your time in the YS Time Trial topic!
