You, sir, gave me a computer-crashing, eye-melting, mouth-a-drooling, stupidly-good 'base' to work with. I've had to tone down a few things (like the extras on the vertical portion of the tail) but aside from that, just minor touchup work with the blender tools to smooth things up and knit together areas that didn't import nicely. Your nose is...well...i don't know how to describe its awesomeness. ;)

Also, I may have to tone down the wheels a bit in order to make the vertex count too extreme. Your wheels are like DAUM!
Gunny wrote:You would be amazed at what decaff can do with a mesh. ;)

Edit: Yep Skyline he is quickly becoming one of the greats.
I appreciate it Gunny. Thank you.

So, I've been working in wireframe for the majority of this project, occasionally going into solid view for a bit, but then I went into textured mode, and nearly got blinded by the white-ness of the model. Well I can do something about that!
Image

I gotta show off Skyline's amazing work in this model so far, so the rest of us peasants can bask in its awesomeness.

Considering what I've seen so far of decaff's work with the 737 series, CRJ's, and now this! I'm excited to see what's next. Btw as far as paints for this goes, (not a request by any means) I used to see a lot of FedEx 727's at KIND. There's a Roush Fenway Racing 727 that comes into KDAB a lot and especially this month and last for the races going on. Purdue University used to own one at some point. I don't know much about it though. Mainly those are the only three I've ever seen however there are TONS of paint jobs out there that are possible.

Err, I thought I reduced polygons a lot before for forcing it on you.
Seems I missed one...or two...thousand...

BTW, Decaff, my gurl likes my nose too, bwahahahaha!

Whoa, THAT is high-detail! Great work by Skyline on the base and then on the follow-up by decaff, gotta love those JT8Ds! Takes me back to my flights in the good old seven-two, a few times with TWA in the late eighties/early ninetees, and then with Delta in '96. And now in YS :D.

You do know that you can animate wheels too, right? Check the stock Concorde.

okay, no major updates or anything, free time dries up real fast. 16 hour days are not fun...

anywhoo i was fiddling around with blender a little and discovered some interesting things.

1) any empty left in layer 1 when exporting a dnm disappears then the dnm is imported back into blender.
2) The dnm exported, then imported can be painted and the resulting model from that will show colors in YSF.
3) Importing re-importing dnms does not let me animate anything, but I will keep trying!

Well, Got homework done much earlier than expected, so spent an hour spamming out the basic outline for St. Thomas in the Caribbean. I figured that I would try to get a couple of islands for that project to help start getting people interested/working. I'm shooting for a fairly basic detail level, so no insane airports or elevation grids.

My detail goal is something like stock-Hawaii with roads, lights and maybe 1 elevation grid for the island.

The entire Caribbean Islands are larger than the Philippines, but with the islands, there are fewer places for lag to appear as there are fewer polys.

Amazing job (for the 998th time)

And speaking of the Philippines,
WHEN WILL YOU GET BACK TO IT??
It's been about 2 months of sitting there collecting dust

I know, I know...I sorta lost my muse on that project, but I will continue it.

727 update:
Fixing up the cockpit so that it looks much smoother, especially around the windows. It's going to take a while.

Decaff, How will you clean the "extra" polygons of the B727?? will you use some perltool?? (mergetri seems good to do the job)

I use a combination of the the set smooth feature, and merging vertices together.

First Imported:

Notice the polygons above the cockpit.

Very purdy!! :D

Hope that answers your question.
