Working on the F-35 Pack. My goal is to get it released before the Air show, but if not then I will release my show bird for the airshow.
I've been doing research on the F-16 to see what happens when you add stores to it and it appears that there is an AoA limiter that is introduced with Class III store configurations. I've decided to piecemeal in the effects of the various pylons. For RCS, AoA, Roll Rate, and Critical Speed.
Here's my initial idea for the changes. I still haven't flight tested it yet, but I think it might workout.
Code: Select all
+-----------+-----------------------------------+
| | Configuration |
+-----------+-----------------------------------+
| Parameter | Clean | +Gunpod | +1/11 | +Pylons |
+-----------+-------+---------+-------+---------+
| RADARCRS | 0.2 | 0.2 | 0.2 | 0.4 |
+-----------+-------+---------+-------+---------+
| MXIPTROL | 200 | -10 | -10 | -20 |
+-----------+-------+---------+-------+---------+
| MXIPTAOA | 30 | -1 | -2 | -5 |
+-----------+-------+---------+-------+---------+
| CRITSPED | 0.9 | -0.1 | -0.1 | -0.2 |
+-----------+-------+---------+-------+---------+
Green Knights CAG. Couldn't find a special paint scheme via google and
F-16.net.

Doing final checkouts I realized that the DAT parameters above weren't correct so I made some changes.
Then I did a whole bunch of check flights. Only 9 more models until the pack is ready! Here's some pictures of the most recent round of test flights.

Wow it's been a while since I've posted anything here. Well, I've been working on some more YSFlight Science Stuff and I realized that my earlier experiments were not well designed or executed. To fix that I've taken a new approach and thought I'd share some initial results from my baseline testing.
The drag profiles are highly quadratic. In Excel the R^2 Fit is something like 0.99925, i.e. almost a perfect match for a quadratic equation.
The lift curves I'm still unsure about.

The look like traditional CL curves, but are different than my previous results in that they are curves and not straight lines.

Well, it truely has been a long time since I sunk my teeth into a modding project, possibly one of the longest times since I joined YSFHQ, but I've enjoyed the time off. This next project of mine is going to be different because it will be extremely slow and methodical as I am creating a video series and a pdf book about how / why I do what I do. Some specific techniques will be highlighted, but for the most part It will be a general process / bigger picture look at how you take a google sketchup model into YSFlight and prepare it for "prime time"

Doomsday inspired me to get working on the model for the 1960s design challenge. Got the cockpit finalized but there are a ton of other things to finish.

While I do have to more make, here's another teaser. I've got 12 models from 8 different airlines completed to-date with a projected total of 29 aircraft...
That total keeps on increasing as I complete more models though...
