It's gonna cost ya a pretty penny...and your little dog too!!! ahahahaha (movie reference on that last part. a cookie for whoever get's it first.)

Anyway, I stared and stared at the front flaps until I said "f**k it. let's merge all these guys into one piece and go from here."

Turns out it was a handy way to go because I now have all the leading edge flaps stuff done. After reviewing pictures online, I moved the inner swing-down flaps to 60 degrees at max deflection to more accurately reflect the info. The leading edge flaps are rotated ~50 degrees which seems to be about where the images show it. Looks good, got it to rotate, and I really cannot complain.

I think I'm going to add little patches that will appear when the leading edge flaps deploy so that the arms don't look like they are ripping thru the wing.

Now I get to try to tackle the trailing edge flaps...that's gonna be a doozie. :?

Hey Decaf, I was wondering if you knew a working link for those fancy flares you had a few pages earlier on this post? I clicked the link but it wouldnt work

I dont know if my last post went through, but could you help me install the flares? When I placed it into the misc folder it didnt tell me to replace anything and when I checked to pop a few flares it hadnt changed.

Take a look at the dat file for the Super Etendard. there is a line in there that tells YSF where to find the flare files.

I am going to make a tutorial for this kind of question... as soon as I finish my MiG-31X and make a pink variant.

Sorry Decaf, im a newbie when it comes to programming and files like that, :P but thanks anyway. Hopefully NightRaven can finish his pink Mig XD

lol NightRaven I was scrolling through the member list of the Ghost Hawks and I see you, what a coincedence (probably spelt that wrong)

Just got the flaps put in and parented together. Now I have to do some picture research and figure out how much each one moves. I'm glad that both sides were symmetric. It saved me about 45 minutes of hassle.

Image

Does anyone have any good data (numbers and such) for the flap deflections? ;)

-- Sun Dec 08, 2013 1:49 am --

aaaaaand that was a failure... Time to try again. Any ideas folks?

Image

I have the empties of each of the flaps parented to the flap above them. This seems to work for the rudder, but I didn't have the added complication of translation. This is probably going to take a bunch of trial and error, unless anyone has some thoughts that might help me out.

Make the topmost flap the parent of the other flap segments? :?

Okay, so some more fiddling with this, and I have found some interesting things.

First I'm doing all of this in blender, and it all works just fine there. It is when I bring it into dnmviewer that things go bad.

Parent Child Structure

Code: Select all

First Flap Empty
 First Flap
  Second Flap Empty
   Second Flap
    Third Flap Empty
     Third Flap
Now some pictures to show what was going on:

First attempt had all the flaps rotating and some of them moving relative to each other
Image

When this came into dnm viewer, all of the objects seemed to move the same distance and rotation apart from the first flap.

Second attempt had the first flap moving and rotating, and the second flap just rotating. (The inner flaps in the below image)
Image

Note that in this the second flap moved, while the third one stayed in sync with the second flap.

The third Attempt was ONLY a movement and rotation of the first flap.
Image

Note in here that everything seems to be working just fine…I am greatly confuzzled.

I don't think that the parenting scheme is necessarily wrong because I used it in the rudder which works just fine. But at the same time I cannot think of any other thing that might be causing these troubles…perhaps I need a position empty and then a rotation empty for each object with the position empty the parent of the rotation empty and then the flap. The whole thing parented to the previous flap…

hmmm…I will have to try this.

If you have any thoughts on this, please let me know. I'm open to trying different things. After these flaps, there is only some minor CLA touchups and then I can begin modeling the cockpit. I've found some potential resources, but it is likely that I will have to just wing it for a large portion of the instrument panels.

Decaff, it's a 727 right? There was a TV Show I had watched that had a whole video about them refurbishing a 727 so they could control it remotely. I'm pretty sure you could get good views of the cockpit from that show.

There is a whole article about it, if you can find the specific episode then it should help

Got it to work!!! The stuff I rambled on about in the last paragraph or two was the key. Having those position empties works wonders.

Some minor fiddling is still required, but now that the theory works, it should be relatively smooth sailing from here. Now all I have to do is find tim... :? Finals much

@ReverseFate
Thanks for the tips, the thing is, though that just pictures of the cockpit are good for colors/ general orientation. More in-detail drawings of the instrument panels is more along the lines of what I was looking for. (and I may have found! I have to go in and find out some more) However, thanks for the interesting video to watch.

Starting to work on the Cockpit. I'm going for a Takaty 737 style cockpit but With a lot more detail. I am learning from my mistakes with the 737 NG cockpit, but I'm also taking a few shortcuts to reduce the load on me.

First off, the center throttle console and the dashboard are from an FS2004 model I found somewhere. Second, I'm recycling the center console and overhead instrument panels from the 737 and modifying them slightly to work with the 727.

I still have to work on the throttles (which I want to animate using the swept wings CLA) and the front instrument panel, and the navigator's station.

I am thinking this airplane will be as close to msfs as Ysflight will ever get.And for that I am grateful. ;)

First navigator's panel with some 3D stuff, but pretty laid back all around. I'm not going to go insane on the detail back here.

I feel a HAVA painted version of this plane should be done, it looks INCREDIBLE.
