Re: NightRaven's Shed
If you want to take something from my 737, or 727 cockpits for the panels, go for it.

Re: NightRaven's Shed
The file is a dnm to allow transparency support (srf transparency never works for me somehow) and if I remember correctly is it about 500-600 KB.decaff_42 wrote:That cockpit is looking extremely detailed. How large is it as an SRF? You might not want to go much above 1.5 - 2mb.

Now I'm left with the seats, top panel and maintenance officer seat + dials. Shouldn't be too hard...

I hope you won't hate me for this, flamer, but if I credit the rest like I did for you, the screen wouldn't fit!

I'll still credit you later on.

Re: NightRaven's Shed
I just converted the CLS DC-10's For-FSX .mdl file to Wavefront .obj file.
It has animations already, if you use this you need to get those animations in DNMviewer configured again.

Download link: Clicky Ticky
(Just helping you to have the most detailed model in YS history)
PS. Remove those ground vehicles attached to the side. CLS included a stair and an pushback truck and they are so annoying even on FSX but CLS has made a fix to make them disappear
(If you use this model, be sure to credit Commercial Level Simulations and me in dat FMC

Re: NightRaven's Shed
1) There's no point
2) I have that program
3) The obj will not have animations
4) There will be too many parts to rename, merge and paint
5) The dnm will be too laggy to test
The reasons why I say all this is because I have tried before with fighters. A small MiG-33 from AC3 when converted, was 1.7 MB large. And that was without animations and paint and it was missing afterburners too. Many parts also had to be edited, merged and animated, which was a total pain in the arse. I have stopped the MiG-33's development for now, and the last update I made on it on this thread was last year. I do not want to go through the horror of doing that all over again.
What you are doing here is slowing me down. I understand your eagerness about this project, but this is completely unnecessary, as I have to redo all the logo shrinkwrapping, positioning of the cockpit etc, which will only slow down the pace of this project. Importing and exporting the obj and dnm will also be a major issue.
Also it will never be the most detailed aircraft in YS history. If anything, CHF's 777s are, with a very accurate model with most major animations in, and it even has an actual cabin (passenger seats and all).

Re: NightRaven's Shed
(Methinking I should download Blender and use these models for another full DC-10 package (Series 10, 15, 30 and 40 since CLS has all of em)

Re: NightRaven's Shed
The point of me making this is not just to make a DC-10 available to YSFlight. It also about the experience of scratch modelling. If you have the skills and experience like me and decaff, you will find scratch modelling not only a challenge but also leisure. It can be extremely fulfilling for us when we scratch model and admire the final product. That, to us, is one of, if not the most important thing in modding.
What this is to me is that you are implying that my work on this model for the past 3 months is equal to naught. Again, I say that that view is in my perspective. It is like a maths question which requires a heck lot of concepts and equations to solve. You do what you think is right, only to find that after using up so much ink, brain power and time, your answer is incorrect. It can be very frustrating.
If you really want to convert those models yourself, I can only say this :
Good luck.

Re: NightRaven's Shed
There's nothing wrong with that. Rather, it should be expected if you're posting WIP's in a thread.

Re: NightRaven's Shed
This is a thread for updates, not for arguments.
working cockpit is now included.

The yoke, gear, spoiler and brake lever are now included.
Now I just need to know which panels have lights/glow in the dark...

I have a mid-dawn photo took from FSX.

Hope this helps

That looks like it will be a joy to fly once you get that bird into the air!

Re: NightRaven's Shed
was rather ticked off by the previous post as editing the quadrant would be a major undertaking and would require a lot of work to make the brake levers compatible.
However, as the position of the entire cockpit was wrong, I decided to just do it anyway.

I have shifted it forwards and resized it here and there, and now the edge of the main cockpit panel is in line at the edges of the windows.
Also, I saw 1 of decaff's Tu-95 instrument dials, and realised that it was the sub-divisions and the needle glowing, not the entire dial. So I went in and made all the dial divisions.

way more detailed now.

Repositioning and resizing of the cockpit also allowed for more leg room, so I added rudder pedals. And yes they do work in sync with the rudder.

Oh and there are new flap and slat levers (on the right of the throttle quadrant). Also notic the dials' sub-divisions.

And of course, new schemes!

All of them have valid registrations.

Re: NightRaven's Shed
On a trivia note some of Fedex's DC 10-10s and -30s were converted to the MD 10-10/30, basically the conversion was to a full glass cockpit similar to the MD 11F:
Fedex MD 10 flightdeck
A good chunk of the fleet is still in the original configuration though.
