Eh... nope.
I've decided to stop this project because of two things.
One, shadowing issues everywhere.
Two, it crashes D3D YSF, so I can't really test it (I'm not a fan of OpenGL, it lags like  ).

Still,

Which model crashes YS? The vehicle or the Varcolac?

The R34.
It's almost like the X-2 (or was it the X-3? :? ), plagued by problems. First, it's not symmetrical (I still have no idea how to make the mirror modifier work in YS). Second, the wheels don't rotate as they should. Third, my .dat doesn't work properly, so I stole one from the Mitsubishi Evo X from the BNIPack.

Mind if I take a look at it?

OK. Having a gander at the model I made a few discoveries as to why YS crashes when your car gets loaded:

a) The vehicle has vertices that are miscalculated and forces YS to shutdown.
b) Your DNM container is correct, but the files within that container are not labeled with correct extensions. For example, R34 doesn't have the SRF extension and YS refuses to recognize it. I renamed the files with the *.SRF extension and they appeared in DNMVierwer and gepolyo after doing a bit of renaming in the DNM as well.
c) The mirroring issue can be easily fixed and so can the shadowing. There are sections of the model that can be cleaned and polygons reduced so YS doesn't have a fit.

So if you'd like, I can clean up the model a bit and send it back to you.

That explains it.

Sure. Thanks! :)

So I've got a new project: the MiG-31X.
Essentially it's an upgraded version of the MiG-31, with major upgrades to its engines and maneuverability, but most importantly the addition of a COFFIN system.
Some sketch:

Current progress:

As you can see, I haven't finished with the nose with the all-important COFFIN system. I also have the thrust vectoring and elevators to finish.
On a side note, I won't be using the GAC gears.

EDIT: After building my first .dat that actually works, I'm facing a problem. The plane is stalling way too often when full back stick is applied. Even looking at the .dat variables page yields no answers.

take a look at the 241st su-27 demo bird. That has some thrust vectoring. See if you are stalling roughly the same amount in that bird. You do stall more often with the thrust vector AC in YSF.

Almost the same.
So... how exactly do I go around fixing this? :?

I think you just have to live with it, or change the alowable pitch and whatnot to a lower level. Try playing around with the maneuverabilty settings.

Take a look at the difference between my F-18 dat file and flake's F-18 demo bird. There is a night and day difference between the handling of the models.

I'm not a dat person, so that's all I can really give you. :?

Hi,

What are your DAT settings now with regards to:

PSTMPTCH ...deg #Post-Stall Maneuver VPitch
PSTMYAW_ ...deg #Post-Stall Maneuver VYaw
PSTMROLL ...deg #Post-Stall Maneuver VRoll

MXIPTAOA ...deg #MAX INPUT AOA
MXIPTSSA ...deg #MAX INPUT SSA
MXIPTROL ...deg #MAX INPUT ROLL

I think these values have a lot to do with the amount of back stick and ensuing stall.
For highly maneuverable planes the values are very high, up to 180deg for full response.
ships and tanks have 0 as you dont want them to change roll and pitch.

I could be wrong though. DAT's are tricky things.
Copying the variables from a plane with similar characteristics and then changing those will usually do the trick.

Stalling problem fixed. I stole some values from the stock F-22  . But as long as it's better than the original MiG-31, it's fine.

But, again, the dnm has shadowing issues, like the wings:

And the cockpit:

How the heck does one go around fixing this? Always been a pain in the ass for me.

When in doubt, refer to mah tutorials. There is one that specifically covers this sort of thing. ;)

Thou shalt do thine research!

Deleted the cockpit for now.
Also, added the thrust vectors. Took me a while to make sense of Dragon's tutorial (I nearly had a nervous breakdown  ) but I managed to get it working at last.

Added vertical stabilisers. They work in sync with the thrust vectoring system.

EDIT: I found the time to continue, so I smoothed out the shadows and made a General Resource logo as well.

I am replying, just because you think nobody will read that tiny inny text you write at the end of your posts.
Seriously, stop it. EVERYONE can read it.

Also, I think you should post pics of its front, not its ass. Haven't got a clear shot of the cockpit.
