A WIP of the first test F-35 I'm painting up. The flags were a pain to line up together (all one decal which took time) but a fairly straight forward process.

Still some more decals to add. Reworking Zack's F-35 program decal to remove the layers and flatten the mesh into a single sheet of vertices.

The tails on the F-35 first of each variant are harder to find good decals of. This was possible the easiest to find.

*Note to self: Don't walk too slowly when there is a F-35 pilot behind me in line.*

Seriously, that thing coming out of the nose looks like it would be painful.

Finding a good reference image was really hard for the "BF-01". Eventually I settled on a photo from near perfect side-view and went with that, rather than deal with incorrect "decal" images from who knows where. The DT-II seal (from the USS Wasp) was a really low-res image that I was able to work with (~250x250).

Oh yes, but I was referring to my general leaning more towards civilian aircraft. I'm not known for liking combat aircraft much but your work is a thing of awesomeness. :D

Finally got it on my second attempt. The first one was way too detailed and I was on track for 2k + vertices. This guy (pun intended) has 1100 vertices, which is about what the BF-01 and BF-05 seals had.

The interesting thing I noticed with AF-01 was that the tails are a dark blue, not a black/dark grey like I thought originally. This took a lot less time to create since I had the flag, wing and nose decals from BF-01 and CF-01. The tail was a modified version of the lighting bolt from CF-01's tails. They cover the same area, but AF-01 has that white outline which complicated things slightly. I nearly forgot the white stripes at the wingtips. I'm not sure what they are for besides looking cool, but who knows.

I'll have to get a shot with all three lined up together at some point :D

I believe those are similar to the racing, or "go faster", stripes on automobiles. They make it go faster.

I'm planning to do some other paint schemes from the other countries in the F-35 program. On the top of my list is UK and Israel. I've found some great fictional paint schemes based upon the current IAF F-16/F-15 brown tan green paint schemes that I'd like to try my hand at.

After starting to look at the A model more with the AF-01 painting, I realized my initial suspicion that the A model engine nozzle was too long.

I updated the intake warnings to have the mesh of the text built into the line.

I will be retrofitting things to painted models.
