Hello everyone,

Patrick31337 and I would like to invite you to some hours of fun on the civav server. We'll have an ATC session on Sunday, July 17.

If Pat will be operating OYS in a day/night cycle, no worries as all airfields have airfield lighting. There is also adequate city lighting (although that's more for your eyes than for navigational purposes :P)

Since the amount of traffic in such events has historically been pretty skimpy, there will be two "center" controllers at most. One will be Mandiola Center, which will govern traffic at LNB, MXA and OCA and surrounding airspaces, the other will be Malta Center, which will govern MLA and PNL traffic, and surrounding airspace.

Since elaborate taxi instructions, detailed flight plans and all the other shebang that used to be done in the past is - well, a thing of the past, all I ask is you please follow some simple guidelines:

- Log in with your callsign. This will help me and any other air traffic controllers quickly identify your particular flight and help reduce the chance of errors. So if you plan on doing NCA flight 1063, your log in username will be NCA 1063.
- There are plenty (as in 267) start positions with multiple start positions at each airport. So spawning at any one airfield should not be a problem. Just let the controller know what your callsign is, what startposition you're at, and where you plan on flying. E.g. "Malta Center, NatCom 1063 at Malta Airport, gate 1, destination Linbury, ready for taxi." Simple right?
- Since there are going to be at most two frequencies, if you are going to be on Teamspeak, you can change your frequency if need be while enroute to your destination. So if you're flying LNB-MLA for instance, once you're given clearance to "resume own navigation", you can go ahead and switch to Malta Center, and vice versa. If you're going to use F12 chat, obviously you can just type it out when you need. "Malta Center, Natcom..."
- When contacting for pushback, just contact the center controller.
- You'll need to contact the respective center when you need to request descent. I suggest you contact the respective center no less than 50 miles from your destination. That will give the center controller some leeway and help ensure a smooth, controlled descent, as opposed to a steep one.
- Some friendly advice: Readback of most ATC instructions would be very helpful (it is in fact, required). Now when I mean most, I mean most, not all. You don't have to read back wind conditions. And please do not give status updates (e.g. now taxiing to RWY 36L, now pushing back from Gate 3, etc). Just readback the instruction so that the controller knows you have heard them.

This is how a typical flight will go:
You log in with your callsign, spawn at an un-occupied start position. Contact either Mandiola Center or Malta Center, you get clearance to go, take off, resume own navigation*, then, when you're ready to start descent (should be no less than 50 miles from your destination airport), contact the proper center again, and the controller will guide you down. Land, taxi to gate.

That's about it. Note that we will also use F12 chat, but if there are 3-4 aircraft on one frequency at one time, F12 chat responses will be delayed.

*If you need directions en-route, just ask and the controller will give them to you

NOTE: This post may be edited as and when required so do check back periodically until the event begins.

My general rant: I will call them blended winglets, not Sharklets; There is no CEO, it's just simply put, an Airbus 319/320/321, or the 320NEO, 321NEO etc. I didn't land IN DAL, I landed AT DAL. On the other hand, I did land in Dallas.

But what happens if more than one flight is on the same flight number?

The way we handled that the other night was the first who spawned added an "A" to the end, second added a "B", and third added a "C". I suppose another option would be to add your name at the end, like "NCA1063-Patrick".

^Thanks for the links u2fly. That is a pretty good guide, we'll do pretty much the same but handing-off and some other tasks will not be required (unless, of course you need to switvh to the other center). As I've mentioned, each center will be responsible for all ground, taxi/takeoff/landing clearances of their respective airports so as to prevent controller boredom. :P

^I'll see what Pat and I can do, but I won't be able to make it on Saturday as I will be very busy with other stuff. I believe Saturdays are Pat's busy days as well. I'll get in touch with him but chances are slim that we can shift this to Saturday. I do apologize for the inconvenience!

Please note: ATC Standards since ATC Honolulu have been relaxed. There is no longer a requirement to book flights in advance and receive route clearance. All flights will resume own navigation. Altitudes may only be given for Traffic Collision Avoidance.

I'll let Tfan answer that for sure, but I'm hoping for at least a little text service. When I run TS during an event, it makes a lot of lag.

Yes, and their event will be on a Saturday. Hopefully anyone who can't attend on Sunday will be able to make it the next weekend.
