Screencaps (side-by-side) - compare YSFlight VS other flight simulator & real world

Post by u2fly »

In this topic propose post side-by-side comparsion images that describe YSFlight's aircrafts, ground objects and landscapes with their representations in other flight simulators & real world.
Try keep same camera direction for both views.

It's hard to compare YSFlight with any other modern flight sim. Having textures is easy mode for those games. Their 3d meshes are pretty crappy (most of the time) and what makes them good is the texture map, which is just a picture that's wrapped around the model.

Those sims also have other tricks to make their games look good. Ambient occlusion (making the lighting dynamic), anti aliasing, in engine (making lines look less fuzzy, various lens effects, color filters, motion blur, etc etc

If you take those things away (things that YS really doesn't have right now, or maybe never will) those modern games start looking crappy.

YSFlight's graphics are a roided out CAD drawing program. This isn't meant as criticism of Soji, it's amazing what he's done with such little resources and without relying on a common game engine such as unity, unigine, source etc.

I tried recreating this in YSFlight, but I got the positions of the fighter aircrafts all wrong

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

A repost of my old screenie, but it's relevant so...

Looking back I'm still surprised it turned out close, even though I wasn't putting that much effort into recreating this shot.

Just wanna revive this thread

Close enough?
The A380 is ahead of its time. With the resilient passenger traffic growth for times to come (reference from Airbus's Global Market Forecast), plus congested airports, the A380 could not be ignored.
