A380 Emirates flip a Challenger 604 midair

Post by Richard Vo » Mon Mar 20, 2017 5:14 pm

So I think y'all may have heard about this.

An a380 Emirates (maybe A6-EUL), flipped a Challenger 604 (D-AMSC) midair :o . This cause by the wake turbulence from the a380. As the result, the Challenger 604 dropped from 35000ft to 25000ft above the sea level.

Also, in the source, I found that there are some smaller plane is also affected by the wake turbulence when flying nearby big aircraft like the a380.

The A380 is ahead of its time. With the resilient passenger traffic growth for times to come (reference from Airbus's Global Market Forecast), plus congested airports, the A380 could not be ignored.

Yeah, passengers sustained injuries as well, some of them serious. Apparently the aircraft was written off. This and other incidents might result in a re-write of the books on enroute separation minima for aircraft smaller than the 388.

My general rant: I will call them blended winglets, not Sharklets; There is no CEO, it's just simply put, an Airbus 319/320/321, or the 320NEO, 321NEO etc. I didn't land IN DAL, I landed AT DAL. On the other hand, I did land in Dallas.

So sad to see D-AMSC has been written off... :( There are some engine failure as well.

So does this mean that all the Challenger aircraft will be "retired" like the Concorde because it is a danger to itself and other aircraft?

That's what irked me about the Concorde incident. The DC-10 that was dropping parts on the runway is still around while the Concorde was put out of service because it is dangerous when it was the DC-10 that was more of the problem.

@Monoceros nope. The Challengers are not dangerous. The solution, as @Turbofan mentioned above
