Time to throw in the towel.

Post by Flake »

EDIT: Ignore this b/s.I'm staying after all.

I don't think it's much secret that I haven't been playing much YS over the past 2 years. I've mostly been busy with academics but besides that, my life's interests have changed. I still enjoy aviation wherever I can get into it, but for the most part, my feet are planted on the ground (or footpegs).

A big change in my life has just happened: I'm now a full-time undergraduate accountant at a reputable local mid-tier firm. It has been my career aspiration to become a chartered accountant, I have studied towards this career field for the last 5 years of my life, and I'm now closer to achieving that goal. I am set to graduate my double bachelors degree in business and commerce at the end of next year. I am dropping my university workload to part-time so that I may now work full-time. When I graduate, I'll be straight back to study to commence my Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting.

Sadly, I do not believe I will have the time to devote to any YSFlight project anymore - not OpenYS, not the forums, not anything. OpenYS remains open-source on GitHub, and if anyone ever wants to try and work on the project, I invite you to break of a fork and give it a go. Sorry to drop the project, but life moves on, sometimes too quickly.

My life from here looks like a whirlwind of university courses and assignments by night, full-time work by day, and study on the weekends. I might get the occasional motorcycle ride in, which I look forward to.

For those of you who have been my friends over the years, you know how to keep in touch with me. I hope you'll continue to do so as I intend to keep in contact with you.

Skies Blue,

Flake

Oh nice! What discipline?

I wish I could go study my Masters. Their graduation robes are so much better.

Having been through the medical system a lot lately, I wish I did medicine. Instead I get to get square eyes by staring at excel, myob and xero all day.

Oh well, bills don't pay themselves. :?

Power to you. Do you have long until graduation?

Bump - Withdrawing this.

After a few days of doing all the bitch work with minimal training all the while being told "We can't invest the cost to train you", I have decided culturally I do not want to be at the firm. I withdrew from the position before mid-day today.

I'll get a lot more career enjoyment from, working for a non-profit. It's not about the money for me.

The plan for the next year is to graduate and rub up with the non-profits around me that I have a lot of respect for. :)

You folks get to put up with me for another year at least.

YSF: You don't like it and it always lets you down, but you keep going back because you can't quite be happy if you aren't miserable.
