Trying to find the initial setup or installation files.

Post by anthsco » Sun Mar 17, 2019 1:14 pm

Okay maybe this is a stupid question but where do i find the setup files for YSFlight?

New laptop and was wanting to add YSFlight again. Downloaded the most recent release but there were no installation files.

The download looks like the full install and not the setup files.

Thanks.

The most recent version has no installer .exe. Just drag and drop the game files into the location you want them. Normally Soji only uses that process for test versions, and builds an installer for full releases, but not this time.

I'd recommend against the newest anyway. No one's using it, people have fairly large performance hits, and the netcode is different from 2015, which all the servers run.

Yeah, you don't want the newest version. 2015 is the last truly "stable" version.

If you are looking for the location of the config files and settings, they are automatically created by YSF in the Documents folder.

Thank you but what I am looking for are the initial install setups. The ones that you have when first
installing the simulator.

When I originally had the files there were two. Setup-E and Setup-J more or less. That is what I am seeking. It was in a zip archive.

The 2015 version (https://ysflight.org/download/) has the setup executable. The 2018 version does not, nor do any test versions.

Perfect thank you! Exactly the file I was looking for.

See you in the virtual sky!

Any reason you need the setup files?

Well that's why I'm asking. You don't need an installer. YS has all the files it needs in the folder. As decaff said. You can drag and drop the 'full installation' anywhere and it will run. No need to actually use the installer.

Everybody: The installer is pointless.
Captain YS: I removed the installer.
Everybody: Where is the installer?

I never was in that bunch and I was asking for the files because I had lost the others when my other laptop died.

Therefore I needed the 2015 edition also mentioned above to reinstall the simulator.

I appreciate everyone's answers and apologize if my terminology was causing confusion. As things are now I have what I was needing to install the simulator on my new laptop.
