Weather In Your Area 2020

Post by Turbofan »

Time to start a new one (albeit kind of late this time :P ).

So far the new year has been on the mild side, we've had several systems come through and made January one of our wettest on record. Typically, Jan is our driest month. So the rain is always welcome this time of year.

It's also been quite mild, temps on avg 5-10 degrees higher than seasonal averages. On Saturday, the high temp was 76F, yesterday it was about 70F, but now it's back to reality. A cold front came through late on Monday and sent the temperature plunging into the 40s by late in the evening. Today, cloudy and the temp barely climbed from 34F in the morning to 37F in the afternoon. Tomorrow: expecting a wide area of 4-6 inches of snow. It will last only one day but roads will probably not recover until Thursday afternoon, especially if the higher totals verify. Should be the most snow we've had in about 2 years at least.

Haha, here in the northern Seattle area, we're getting the usual stuff. Temps between the mid to high 30s and the high 40s. We did get some snow showers today that accumulated to about 1/4 in. around the area. It was pretty much melting while it was falling, though. Now it's completely raining. Late last month we got 2 late starts and 2 snow days in the Marysville School District (well, on one snow day MSD actually had a late start), which is also kind of normal. No more snow this year, I think.

Forecasts were pretty much on-point, got anywhere from 3-6 inches of snow in the metro, with some locally higher amounts. Schools are closed for the day and so kids are out and about sledding and stuff.

Dozens of accidents and lengthy delays though, no shock there. I'm glad I work in the IT industry and can work from home if need be (like today) :D. Currently a temperature of 29F and the sun's already coming out, so some melting will take place, but the overnight low is forecast to be around 20F so any water on area roads will re-freeze in the morning. High on Sunday will be back in the mid-upper 50s.

West Tennessee: It was in the 60s on Monday and Tuesday, yesterday we had several counties with flooding, and the kids at school are hoping for a snow day tomorrow. If you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes.

Sounds a bit like western Washington! Haha. We're now having some severe flooding in the Snohomish Valley and into the Cascade Mountains. A few days ago we were getting light snow flurries, now we're getting full-on flooding lol.

A line of storms is currently crossing the Mississippi River. It looks like it has a history of tornadoes in Arkansas and we're in a tornado watch here in North West Tennessee.

Yeah it's been a rough day east and northeast of us, lots of severe weather reports, Jonesboro AR got hit pretty bad I saw. Hope nothing too bad in your area Pat.

Over here, not a bad day save for the winds from the NW at 20-30 mph with some higher gusts. Temp made it into the upper 60s, tomorrow very nice with much lighter winds and upper 60s-low 70s. Rain comes back on Monday though.

The storm hit here about 9 PM. The wind was strong, close lightning, then it was gone as fast as it appeared. Maybe 15 minutes, 25 at the most, from first sounds of thunder to realizing I hadn't heard thunder in a while. It went north and south of us, as storms usually do because of the hills to the west.

A storm line came through West Tennessee today. The leading edge had hard wind and rain. The result was a tree falling on the roof over my bedroom, but it didn't go through the boards so no leaks so far. Also, the power went out for large parts of the area. They are saying it could be hours before everybody is back on, but ours came back just now. It looks like it's in East Tennessee now. It was moving fast. It blew through in about five minutes, then it was just light thunder and rain for an hour. Temperatures have been in the mid 60s all day.

I was watching the coverage of that line on WeatherNation, certainly looked stout on radar (and now we know just how stout it was). Glad to know you all are safe though, hope you get some help getting that tree off the roof. Also good that you got your electricity back sooner than expected, hope everyone else gets it back soon also.

We're expecting some severe weather ourselves here in the Sooner state tomorrow with a cold front passing through. Again with the chance of damaging hail and winds. Hail has been the real threat for us as of late, seems every major storm has been dumping large chunks of ice this Spring season.

Did I mention hail being the main threat for us this severe season? More storms today, more large chunks/balls of ice falling from the sky.

Thankfully missed us but unfortunately did fall and cause damage about 5-6 miles to our east, continuing to our SE then S as a powerful supercell tracked on south. I was watching a line of cumulus that went from nothing to a bonafide storm with tops exceeding 50,000 feet in less than 30 minutes. Formed almost right overhead before it started putting down baseball and some softball size hail, like I said just missing us (we got some pea-size and a bit larger but that was about it).

Temps were in the low 90s today and dewpoints in the upper 60s, a perfect combination for explosive storm development. There was a layer of warm air about 4,000-5,000 feet up, but it didn't take long for that "cap" to break as a cold front came through and provided just enough lift for rapid storm firing.

Not much right now in Seattle as per usual, lol. We're supposed to get super hot this spring, like into the 80s (RIP). We had a chance of a few isolated thunderstorms yesterday and the day before, but all of the storm systems died when they hit the Olympic Mountains out on the coast. That happens a lot; a severe storm brews up over the east Pacific, it tracks northeast, hits the Olympics and either dies out or makes it past but much weaker. We usually get one or two lightning strikes in our storms and that's it. September 2019 was an exception, with over 2 strikes/second at the peak. Broke a record or two, I think. Lots of rain here too, lol.

Summer is in full force now in the Southern Plains, we've been having high temps in the low to mid 90s, steadily climbing to the 100 degree mark today. A heat advisory in in effect for our area today, expecting heat indices from 105 to 108F.

Currently 80F with a dewpoint of 74F. Yeah, the Gulf atmosphere basically migrated here :D.

It was in the high 80s and low 90s here in rural northwest Tennessee the last few days, but with humidity it felt like absolute pain. We have been having a little bit of rain now and then to keep the dust from being too dusty.

It's been about the hottest stretch of weather here this summer, had a temp of 100F with a dewpoint of 72F on Friday giving us a heat index of 109F. It "cooled" down over the weekend a bit, temps back down in the mid-upper 90s and had some rain.

Today we were expecting severe weather and that did materialize, numerous reports of hail and wind, though thankfully we just got some wind. But boy did the rain come down in buckets, got over 3 inches so far, and more rain is on the way tomorrow night. Plus continuing chances for rain iover the next 3-4 days. Should keep the high temps in check but will feel humid no doubt. Still, any rain we get this time of year is a winner, so can't complain.

Washington is now burning up, as per usual at the end of summer. With the Fraser River outflow winds, it's gonna get windy and hot, making fires spread easily. Tonight we're supposed to get gusts of over 45 MPH.

We've had some good rains with temps much below averages for this time of year. Temps are going back up this weekend but still below averages, and expecting hazy conditions with smoke from western U.S. fires spreading over our region.

High temps will continue to be below average but in the low 80s for much of next week. Not too bad, but I prefer it to be slightly warmer, oh well, can't complain too much.

On Thursday last week the high temp was 85F. Fast-forward to today after a couple of cold frontal passages and a strong, unseasonable winter system, the high topped out in the upper 30s after midnight this morning, and we're under an ice storm warning. Looking at widespread ice accumulations between .5 and .75 inches, with leaves still on the trees. Already lots of people without electricity. Expecting round 2 of precip late tonight/early tomorrow morning, and possibly a third round early Wednesday.
