Descending from 30,000+ft to airport?

Post by impaulready6418 »

For a long time I've been descending towards my airports with the default landing option on the autopilot menu, its reliable and works most of the time, but if there's terrain around the airport that's above 2,000ft then there's a problem, what descending methods can I use to avoid terrain incase if the airport is around terrain above 2,000ft? example airports i have some difficulty on: Hong Kong international in HONGKONG scenery, Zurich and Milan at THEALPS scenery by K2W, and some more which I don't remember the names of, thanks for any replies! :D

Hong Kong? Kai Tak/VHHX? That landing became infamous for a reason, because you had to manually fly it in for landing. You're better off flying landings manually in most cases anyway, because the landing autopilot is extremely meandering and slow.

I mean I could try, problem is its gonna take some time trying to align myself to the runway if my visibility is at minimum, how about the IFR menu thing? it gives directions to be on the ILS and you dont have to necessarily follow its altitude, but is it accurate though?

FYI the modern Hong Kong airport is simply Hong Kong Intl but can be referred to as Chek Lap Kok Intl.
