Are you at least seeing green or white rings around aircraft?
Singin' aye-aye-aye
We'll fight until we die
And our enemies are gone forevermore

Raining fire from above
For the freedom that we love
We are the hounds of heaven, the bloody dogs of war

In order for you to get a lock on an aircraft, you have to be on a different IFF than the aircraft you want to lock on to.

if the circle is white = same IFF / friendly (cant be locked on)
if the circle is green = different IFF / hostile (can be locked on)

You can change your IFFs when you're online, not familiar with how you change IFFs offline tho

Offline you are IFF1 by default and cannot change that as far as I know.

To be clear, user can play 'self-hosted server game' without even Internet connection (i.e. in offline):
  1. Launch YSFlight;
  2. Go to menu "Network > Server", choose scenery and press "OK";
  3. Press key ( 2 ) on keyboard to change own IFF from IFF1 (friend; default) to IFF2 (foe);
  4. Press key ( J ) to join & play yourself as a foe to all default aircrafts & ground objects.
Also, setting IFF could be realized with creating simple custom mission as YFS-file with custom IDENTIFY tag applied to user aircraft: P.S. I'm not sure, but there is also FIELDNAM ... IFF:0 tag in YFS-files, which declares default IFF(?) and IDENTIFY 0 is declared default user aircraft IFF.
So, setting one of these tags different to another may give you an expected result
  • IFF:0 Vs IDENTIFY 0 - all friends by default;
  • IFF:1 Vs IDENTIFY 0 - all defaults are foes to user;
  • IFF:0 Vs IDENTIFY 1 - user are foe to all defaults;
  • IFF:1 Vs IDENTIFY 1 - user and all defaults are friends, but foes to all other.

Code: Select all

YFSVERSI 20150425
SIMTITLE "! MALFUNCTION: Test-pilot nightmare mission"
FIELDNAM CRESCENT_ISLAND 0 0 0 0 0 0 TRUE IFF:0 GNDFIRE:FALSE
...
AIRPLANE F-15DJ_EAGLE TRUE
IDENTIFY 1
STARTPOS 0 NORTH10000_01
IDANDTAG 1 ""
...

While that is "offline" it is connecting to a server. Perhaps the "offline"/"online" terminology isn't 100% accurate, but it is 99% accurate for how people play ysflight.

If user launch "Network > Server" itself in offline — user play directly on server in such case, so user NOT connects to any 'external' server (as actual YSFlight process would be itself 'server').

JFTR, Of course its possible to launch server as a separate process (even launch 'headless server' via terminal) and connect YSFlight in client mode from another window — in this case user would connecting to server as a separate.
