[YS Science] Bomb fall equations

Post by waspe414 »

B250 and B500 are perfectly parabolic with no drag

B500HD has an approximate terminal velocity of 75m/s indicated airspeed, with a pretty wild curve
At low altitudes, it's a reasonable curve:

Dropping to 0m from different heights yields this curve:

Dropping from 50km to different heights yields this curve. The initial component is parabolic as it's above the atmosphere (which ends at 36km):

B500HD equation
This mess approximately describes low altitude drops, and solves given an input altitude and airspeed within 7.5% error at high altitudes and airspeeds

Code: Select all

dx = 67.4^2/9.81*ln((67.4^2 + 9.81Vx*(((((72*sqrt((0.97-e^(-0.0031h)))/63.3)^18) + ((72*sqrt((0.97-e^(-0.0031h)))/24)^2.28 + 2.2)*1.15))/67.4^2) - h^1.45/100
