Ground Object HTRADIUS

Post by vmateen »

Hi folks! How do y'all figure out the HTRADIUS for dat files for a srf? I've been looking at other srf files and opening them in dnm viewer to "measure" and compare to their attached dat file but it doesn't add up properly for me.

I think the HTRADIUS only sets the size of the explosion upon destruction, doesn't it? The collision .srf file provides the basic 3d shape of the object to determine if it is being hit. Take the estimated radius of the object, I think.
I don't know this for sure, it's been a few years since I worked on a .dat file.

Honestly, no idea lol and I've read about all I can on dnm srf and dat files. I'll look more into the coll file though and make a rough guess. Thanks!

To get the value for aircraft, I just grab the longest dimension of wingspan, length, or height and then round up to the nearest meter. Usually that's enough unless your aircraft is particularly odd-shaped. If it is, I load it in Blender and put a sphere at 0,0,0 and scale it until it encloses the entire model

Sorry for the super late response (I forgot..dad brain hit me hard lol). I took this advice and it worked out well. Also ended up using another method of finding a really small ground object (I think it was a suitcase) and used DNMviewer to add that object to the file and measure the distances by moving it around
