Weird issues with sound

Post by john3voltas » Sat Jun 25, 2011 3:56 pm

When I run latest YFS on my computer (Puppy Linux 5.2.5 - Ubuntu-based) I get some strange stuttering noise instead of engine sound. Then if I pull up the landing gear or if I use my flaps, I loose engine sound and I keep hearing the sound from gear/flaps.
To properly illustrate my issue, please watch this video: http://youtu.be/bDNiBJarrsU
From 0:00 until 0:57 there's an irritating noise coming from the game (at least on my PC).
Then it goes away and it comes back for the last 3 seconds of the video.
That's what is happening on my PC too.
Is this what the game should sound like? Hope not...
TIA
Cheers

Vary nice vid but the sound issue I think may be from your computer because there was no stuttering apparent on your vidio just the normal sound fx.
But I must warn you that there have been issues with linux in the past.
and as I am a windows user I have no knowledge of linux to help you with. But there are many linux users here to help I am sure.

How weird.
I just booted into Windows 7 (dual boot with Puppy), watched the video and I can still hear a very weird noise.
Could it be that the "weird" noise that I'm talking about is actually the proper and intended engine sound? Like an echoing sound similar to what you can hear in a power plant.
Anyway, I just installed the sound pack from YSFHQ and the sound is now a lot better but I still get that issue when I use the landing gear or the flaps - I stop hearing the engines and keep hearing the gear/flaps sound until I change my throttle again.
Anyone experiencing the same issue?
Cheers

Must be a linux Fault, as I tried the MS version (using wine) and it happened.

@Phoenix
Do you mean that you have this issue only in Linux and Wine?
Have you got a Microsoft computer to test this? I can only test this in a week.
Would it be a Linux issue or a YSF issue?
Is there anywhere where I can log a bug or something?
Cheers

only with YS. But to note, only wine has this.
Yes I have a Microsoft Computer, no trouble.

Linux issue, maybe EricT15 can help.

NB: Suse 11.3 has no issue with it.

I never have sound on, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I am always on Teamspeak, or have music on. The linux versions are buggy. On my comp, shift + F1-F12 closes YS. Also, clicking the screen when starting YS makes the loading hang at preparing the joystick model. I think the problem lies in the fact that Linux has so much distro's, and since Soji tests on an extremely outdated 8.10 version of Ubuntu. I hope that I/we can convince him in the future to switch to 10.04/11.04 Ubuntu, or another more recent distro.

Agreed. For the time being, I suggest you use the 2ch sound mod in combination with Wine. Also, what sound card/drivers are you using?
