Bombcat's Ironworks

Post by Bombcat » Mon Apr 25, 2011 8:35 pm

Thought I'd put up a thread for some of the mods I'm building which will one day see the light. All current projects are Birdfarm derivatives.

Current Projects:
Image
Rockwell F-19 Dagger (WHAT-IF) American export oriented light fighter. Post-production (work by Bombcat, Animal, Iceman, Shutter)

Image
Grumman F-24 Ocelot (WHAT-IF) American naval strike fighter, subscale tomcat derivative. F/A-18C size class. Advanced flight testing, could use some cockpit work (Bombcat)

Image
Northrop Grumman F/A-36 Ghost Bat (WHAT-IF) American advanced naval strike fighter, F/A-XX design. Final configuration set, most components finished. (Bombcat, Animal)

Image
Lockheed Martin F-35X Hellcat II (WHAT-IF) Forward swept wing derivative of the F-35A, optimized for dogfighting. From the comic book series "Titanium Rain". Simple blank, don't plan to do much more for it. (Bombcat)

Image
Grumman F-14D Tomcat "Paper Doll" (paint) F-14D painted in commemorative colors for the 100th anniversary of American Naval Aviation. Painted as "Paper Doll", an F6F-5 Hellcat of VF-27. Complete.

As you can now see, all my current projects are at least in some stage of flight testing. There's always something else hiding in a folder somewhere.
I like what-if stuff, and kit bashing. The single seat mini-Tomcat is something I've had in mind for a while now, so when Animal suggested it last night, I jumped on it.

Bad news, good news, and a little bad news, folks. My computer died yesterday, and so I decided it was about time for a replacement. I was able to get nearly all my work from the backup files, but I had not yet backed up my work on the Ocelot. I've got some mid-construction copies, however, and so while I'll be off my modding game for a few weeks or so, all the projects in this thread shall see the light of day, Fortunately, Animal and Iceman were in possession of copies of the F-19 Dagger DNM which are most likely more advanced then my own, and this little issue should not interfere with that project in any significant fashion.

Probably still getting it set up the way he wants it.

Always my least favorite portion of having a new computer. Its like having a new stiff wallet. Doesnt feel right till you get it properly broken in.

There is no real explanation. It just sort of happened, while working on the F-24 Ocelot. Right now, it's called the F-24XXX Archangel.

And yes. That is a 155mm cannon on the belly.

Fire all the guns at once and watch it fly back wards until you fire the 155.
The muzzle blast alone will stop it in mid-flight and scramble the pilots brain from concussive force

A production model of the Archangel, a little more rationally armed - the F/A-40 Nyancat, with appropriate tail art. Internal weapons include two GAU-12 25MM cannons, and possibly an internal weapons bay for up to 6 AIM-120s.

The OAH-79 Mandan light scout/attack helicopter is a competitor for the OH-58 replacement program. With cost as a driving factor, the Bell-Boeing team selected the OH-58 Kiowa platform as the basis for their advanced helicopter. Building on Sikorsky's success with the X-2, Bell selected a twin rotor-pusher configuration for high speed and enhanced hot-high performance. The Mandan attracted considerable attention from the USMC, which saw the fast scout as a potential escort for the MV-22 assault transports and a cheap supplement to the troubled F-35B in the close air support role.
