It's an old painter's trick. You make a paste from bananas and flour, go under a bridge for the ideal proportion of shadow and light, make a stencil with your paste that outlines the camouflage you want to make. The paste is far better than normal stencils because it allows for maximum gradation at the edges, which gives it a much more realistic feel. I do it under a bridge so the bananas don't spoil. That's what you do for the paint. The model itself ice tells me he obtained from a mystical Japanese wizard, master Hasagewa.
