Standard VA Hawaii

Post by slinki » Tue Sep 13, 2011 10:40 am

Hey guys,

I think we should work, as a community, to develop a VA (and military) friendly Hawaii.

What im refering too, is a megamap of hawaii that includes all ILS, VOR's etc to make navigation/ATC easier.
Carrier fleets, ground attack targets for the military squads.

Any thoughts?

The man does have a point here.

There are a lot of ILS/NDB systems missing on major airports on both standard and PMNV Hawaii.

There are also multiple versions of the same map which are actually playable on the same server, which creates confusion when having 2 of each VOR stations, for an example.
Most of the NDB and VOR stations are position correctly as in RL ( "Real World" ) but some aren't.

I am not ordering around saying that some makes it, just stating my opinion. ;)

Although YSF may seem to some as a no frills game, it can be used as a pretty good free IFR simulator, being able to practice approaches, NDB interceptions and what not. :D

As a beginner myself, I don't mind the incomplete items. It makes the game a little more interesting. It keeps me on my feet when I don't necessarily know whether I'm going to land with or without ILS, you know? EDIT: My opinion completely changed after I performed a perfect nightime ILS approach... an ILS that was floating in the ocean.

There are 4 really tiny airports, and those don't need ILS at all. They are their own challenge, to find and also to land.

But I think it would be a lot of work to do that, so in my opinion, you might as well make a map of another area, as people have already spent a lot of time in Hawaii.

Just my two cents.

171 Hawaii is pretty sweet, nav-wise.

More other maps and less Hawaii. It's boring.

This is why I am creating a manual for which VA's will be able to move to other maps with relative ease :)

Look,VAs can go about any Hawaii you jut need to remember offsets (PMNV is ten degrees).

Perhaps though, we need more VA maps, as what we are getting are squad/aerobatic maps.

Well,

anyone know the D server by 2ch?

Perhaps we should adopt that map for this stuff. its HUGE, allows long range flights you need a large plane + a few hours for, tons of airports, lots of VOR's, ILS at most airports etc. Its a map that makes climbing to 32,000 in a 747 actually seem worth doing. Not to mention, im sure the 171/other squads could adopt it to be friendly to them with GA targets, etc.

If you want a large map, run the megadodo map.

For those people who don't know of the megadodo maps, check here.

If someone's bored with Hawaii, I suggest West Japan by Takaty... The pack comes with IFR maps, IAPs, SIDs an STARs included.

I must also remind of www.skyvector.com that is a useful aid for planning flights in PMNV Hawaii.

Now that is an epic idea.If someone could put the 171st hawaii or PMNV hawaii in place of the stock hawaii in that map it would be very nice. And new destinations for VA's and they can still fly in hawaii to all in one map.

I'm going to do some testing, mod it and hopefully run it on the 42South server.

Cool!Anyway we could take a map of america and hawaii and put them in one map and scale them properly and make them the same distance away from each other as they are in real life.

Pardon me for reviving this topic a week later, but I want to throw my opinion in:

I think Megadodo would be a great choice as a standard map. The thing I'd like to see, however, is a vectors chart (i.e. showing what heading to fly from airport A to airport B) for ATC. Also, a .point file for YSRadar would be necessary (that's why Hawaii is such a great choice for VA's right now, it's compatible!).

I'd also be interested in exploring some kind of new Civilian map... let's start researching it, okay?
