So I've been wondering,
How does the Megadodo map work? I've been looking at the .fld and this is what it says:
FIELD
GND 1 15 140
SKY 23 106 189
FLD
FIL atsugi.fld
POS 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 0 0
END
FLD
FIL hawaii.fld
POS 100000.00 0.00 250000.00 0 0 0
END
FLD
FIL tohoku.fld
POS -300000.00 0.00 150000.00 0 0 0
END
FLD
FIL aomori.fld
POS 15000.00 0.00 -200000.00 0 0 0
END
FLD
FIL crescent.fld
POS -100000.00 0.00 150000.00 0 0 0
END
FLD
FIL newta.fld
POS 200000.00 0.00 -200000.00 0 0 0
END
FLD
FIL naha.fld
POS 250000.00 0.00 -150000.00 0 0 0
END
Is it really as simple as adding any .fld name of a map and putting the position co-ordinate in? If it is, theoretically could we have large 'cross-ocean' flights?
(For those who don't know the map:

I'm doing some experimentation with it but thought it would be good to ask here and see if anyone knows any information about it.

I too am wondering about over-seas flights, but can you really just plug-in file names into the thing without having some sort of .STP file arranged for it also, along with cross-translating coordinates from the original (smaller)map to the new (much larger) one. It's kind-of mind-blowing. Oh, BTW, do the coordinates given correspond to miles, nauts., kilometers or something else entirely?

If more maps can be made like this then VA's will get even bigger and there will actually be a point in using autopilot and climbibng high.

To answer your last question: meters. And the lack of stp's is interesting.
Edit: have you ever thought about [KZS]_It's_a_small_world and [KZS]_It's_a_medium_world? Both are world maps on a smaller scale. Big enough to an hour long 747 flight or more.

You can get a 3-hours flight in Hawaii too, you just have to choose a slower aircraft

Ok, turns out there is a separate .stp file with the megadodo maps.
It also turns out that any map can be used, in the .fld file (first post) where it has the position (POS numbers) of the map.
Simply add these numbers to the STP position numbers in the .stp file and the start position is in the correct position, in relation to the map.
Also, it is best if the stock maps are used as everyone has them installed.
