Turret point of view

Post by DavideV »

I'm used to ask bizarre questions, once in a while... so I was wondering if there's anyone out there who's aware of any trick to have an EXCAMERA following a turret movement. My goal is to have something like a surveillance camera on a plane/helicopter... the turret is just to have a simple .srf with some fake data on it and a crosshair.

Thanks anyway!

I see where you want to get to, but I haven't seen that before. I think that Ice did one.

Closest you could get was adding a Bomb View right above the gun on a, for example, AH-64 Apache or something.

I dont think making the camera move with turret is possible, closest I got is a view looking down with a crosshair and night vision; here is some pictures.

I don't think there is any way to have a moving viewpoint. You can assign a .srf to follow the aim reticule but not the viewpoint.... I think.

Can you no longer select the weapon view and get those little squares in the corner? I used to have a little application that put a little crosshair in those windows, too.

you still can

1. Press "O" (the letter)
2. then 1 for bottom left box or 2 for bottom right box
3. then 5

My annoyance with that is it's so small, (TWSS) it doesn't really work for a true turret view (it's max FOV isn't properly proportional to its size, and it can't be full screen).

I flew a bomber once that had a camera follow the turret, but I'll be damned if I can't remember who made it.

The weapon's point of view just doesn't work because, in that case, I have the viewpoint moved toward the target (even though in case of a multiple targets cluster it can be very dizzy having the viewpoint constantly changing!) but then I don't have the turret object moving.

I simulated a rescue mission using the Gunny's Kodiak map flying on my P.166. I placed a looking-down viewpoint in the radar's radome, and then I placed some text and a crossair. Selecting the simple HUD, I was able to do this

The problem is that either I focus on flying or photographing targets. I thought a possible rescue/patrolling mission could be done by flying over the checkpoint, setting circle autopilot and then switching to patrol camera taking pictures, then switching back and return to base. But I really need that crosshair to follow the viewpoint, or I won't be able to correctly simulate the camera.

Go to "Option" then "Joystick/Key Assignments". Set the "Point of view Y (-+ 90) and the Point of view X (-+ 180) as Mouse Y Axis and Mouse X Axis, respectively. This will let you move the camera with the mouse. Obviously, you need a joystick for this to work (some idiot was going to complain  ). Now, set the turret (camera, as it were) to something like the arrow keys. That should give you the effect you are looking for, but sadly would be limited to those who use a joystick or keyboard to fly.
