I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

Just a bit of clarification - neither the Mk.5 nor the Mk.IX Spitfires saw service during the part of the war classified as the Battle of Britain, which the RAF website describes as lasting from the 10th of July to the 31st of October, 1940.
There are some minor painting flaws, most notably a green polygon on the bottom of the left wing of EP120, and a few issues with normals. These are good planes, but could stand a good bit more polish.

What were you smoking? The prototype might have flown near the of 1940 (even that is doubtful), but Mk.V didn't enter squadron service until spring 41.

Not sure what your sources are, Welshy, but everything I can find on the Spitfire Mk.V indicates trial entry into service in February 1941 with no.92 Squadron. While the Merlin 45 may have been trialed earlier, I have seen no mention of any Spitfire Mk.V's flying before January 1941. I'd love to see more detailed information on the type.

My principal sources are:
Spitfire Mark I/II Aces, 1939-41
Spitfire Mark V Aces, 1941-45
Combat Legends, Spitfire Mks. 1-V

I work for a 3 man not for profit that does work finding out what peoples RAF relatives flew etc (only current or ex-servicemen - although no site active one is in the works by me :) ).....we have a special RAF charter and have non sensitive information on pilots (that has been declassified) We have found that a Merlin 45 was indeed fitted to a Mk.1 earlier but so was 20mm etc (Almost full set, making it a converted prototye and this was trialed by No. 53's Operational Training Unit's B Flight

Alright, I could see that a prototype which represented what would become the Mk.V, either a Va or a Vb, was flying by October 1941. I've been wondering when the configuration was first flown, and certainly, development times were pretty quick under such urgent circumstances. It's a bit of a stretch to call that "beginning to enter service," however.
