Hello Everyone!

Post by decaff_42 »

I'm decaff and obviously just starting on YSFHQ.

My first flight sim is YS flight and until about two months ago, never thought about adding any planes. Once I started adding planes I got more interested in the online sights dedicated to YS Flight. For a while I have enjoyed adding planes and maps and flying them around, and just started to think about making films of YS flight. I've played around with the basics but found myself wanting to make a higher quality like Kuro or many others that I saw on youtube. That is one of the main reasons for joining this site; to get help on making videos.

Aside from interested in YSF, I've been interested in airplanes for a long time. I enjoy air shows and making planes in Pro Engineer. You can check out my ProE videos on youtube, username: decaff2010. Currently I'm an Aerospace Engineering major, and I am seeking a concentration in aeronautical engineering.

@ gunny

I don't know about modding just yet! I'm getting familiar with .dat and .lst files, but no where near doing a repaint. I've gotten the software that I need for that, but it is REALLY complicated. I've tried Kuro's tutorials but It's still hard.

It's quite easy when you learn. The best program to model is Blender, but some people here use 3ds Max. Although the learning curve in Blender is shorter.

I was thinking about starting with making maps. It seems like it would be slightly easier to do and more interesting to me. I've always wanted to fly on an Area 88 map and thought it would be fun to make. It seems like it would be an easier map to make.

I'd recommend you to make planes, it's easier.

I disagree. Decaff if you're in college/university get yourself a free copy of 3ds max. It's absolutely worth it, and it's worlds better than blender.

@ Shutter
Thanks for the tip. I'm not working on making planes right now, but when I do, I'll give it a try.

Right now I'm building some airports to use in some original maps. TF58 was right that you shouldn't post your first map...mine sucked. Looking back I can't believe how awful it looks compared to my newer stuff. I'm still working on learning all the things I can do in YS Scenery Editor, but it's fun. ;)

Good to hear. YS modding has a learning curve to it, but if you keep at it the results are worth it.

I noticed the curve when I watched a few of Kuro's blender tutorials and I really don't have time for that with school and all. Making maps takes a little less time due to the written tutorials out there. Granted there's still TONS to learn through trial and error, but It's a little less time intensive and I can start and stop when I need to.

I didn't see that. Thanks for the heads up.
EDIT:
Was that on YSPilots? I didn't see it when I did a quick google search, but the first hit was from YSP.
