[AIRCRAFT] FA-58 Spectre

Post by Grigor » Tue May 10, 2011 8:54 am

[mod=FA-58 Spectre][previmg]http://k.min.us/jlgJnc.png[/previmg]
[moddesc=http://min.us/mFA58]This is my second home-built add-on for YS Flight.

The F-58 Spectre is an entirely fictional aircraft, along the lines of the previously released FA-57 Centaur. It combines a stealthy profile with a lifting body fuselage and 2-D vectored thrust control. Unlike the FA-57 I decided to give it twin rudders, which also act as a monster speedbrake. For the markings I decided to go for a more traditional high-vis scheme - less contemporary perhaps, but more interesting visually.

The exhausts use a unique single vane system to vector thrust, allowing for higher thrust angles than on any other system and thus higher turns rates than any other fighter.

The FA-58 is designed for minimal runway requirements. The intake doors on the upper fuselage allow for landing anywhere, even on dirt runways.

The lifting body is designed to stall at higher speeds and/or angles of attack, so is capable of low-G turns at over 400 knots, but at lower speeds (under 250 knots) it will still be responsive and stable in the air. Dogfighting and ground attack are best undertaken at between 200-250 knots.

I decided to use the bomb-door (CLA 9 in the DNM, or the "1" key in-game) to operate the arrester hook, so it doesn't open when you apply the wheel brake.

Credits to BUCK and ICEMAN for some of the markings (VFA-14 and tail markings) and also (I think) to BUCK for the F-16C pilot.[/moddesc]

The Wizard puts out more of that pimp juice. Good stuff. TYO for the pilot.

---EDIT---

Okay. Just saw what you did with the high-speed blade. I am impressed.

IMO, the lights should go on using the lights CLAs. Try CLA 30 - 32 for lights.

No burner plume?! Aww =[ The awesome effects you have for the nozzles woulda been amplified with some burner plume up in that bitch. But Ir espect your decision.

Control surfaces are solid.

Overall, this is very nice.

Thanks all for the response. More stuff on the way soon - revised Air .lst manager and Dogfight 2.31, both with Profile Load / Save Options...

Questions for Mr. Iceman:
TYO for the pilot. - It'll be obvious when you tell me. What's TYO? Ditto for IMO.

As for the lights, it was in the back of my mind, especially the formation lights. Will check this out.

Burner plumes..? Not sure what these would look like in the deflected state. As long as there's some animation to show what's going on... Also trying not to let the .dnm mutate into anything too big.

TYO is another modder from the Japanese community. Did a popular Super Hornet that you can find in CEP.

TYO is the original creator of that pilot.

IMO is in my opinion.

I Know i'm bumping a 3-4 Month old Thread, but this needs to be said:
The F/A-58 has a very bad glitch, upon firing the gun, it crashes YSFlight. I don't know why, but F-16 Said he had the same problem. The only Reason i posted here is because for some apparent reason, i cannot PM him. i point at his name, and nothing comes up, i go to his profile, there is no "Send Grigor a PM" link. Overall, the Plane Looks nice.

I checked his profile preferences and it seems that Grigor has refused to allow members to send PMs to him... Mods can still send PMs so I'll ask him to check it out for you.

I have no issue with it, so it may be relative to your computer specs or YS version. I seem to recall increasing the number of bullets fired per second would, after some point, crash YS. If you have a low end computer it could be that, as the gun interval is 0.003...

Well, I'm using the latest version of ysflight. 201102 something.. and well, i have 1 Ghz CPU with 3 Gigs of Ram.
Also, i poked around in the DAT and noticed that ".003" Gun Interval. i compared that with the 241st su27, and, well, the fact that it *don't* Crash my YSFlight, along with every other plane.

Greetings all. Just got 'round to looking in again. Also just changed my PM setting.
I myself have never run into this problem. (I've got a Pentium 4 with 3.06ghz and 922 MB of RAM, which I was lucky to find on someone's junk pile on the roadside.)
If changing the fire rate can fix this problem, by all means do so. You could halve the fire rate and double the gunpower if you want to maintain values. Whatever works.
