[PACK] Grigor's Planes II

Post by Grigor » Thu Dec 08, 2011 9:03 pm

[mod=Grigor's Planes II][previmg]http://i.minus.com/jbjylEZuJyXlRz.png[/previmg]
[moddesc=http://min.us/mNJSYJUrp]DESCRIPTION OF MOD:

A few new planes for the Grigor Collection.

FLYBOY: This is an upgraded Flyboy, including a manned "go-cart" version. The new version has tweaked hardpoints and undercarriage (so the AGM-65's no longer drag on the runway!) and improved flight characteristics.

FA-91 Shadow: I dreamt of this plane at two in the morning. It came out much as I remembered, but after that I didn't know what to do with it. Not being a fan of internal weapons bays (which complicate game-play and maintaining realism among AI wingmen) I didn't add any. Nor did it look right with external hardpoints. It remains a curiosity, incomplete for now.

FA-59 Broadsword: This Is The One. Those of you familiar with the FA-57 Centaur will recognise the basic outline of this plane. Sometimes I tend to modify a fictional design rather than re-build from scratch. I like the lines of this one: it's a shape that's been in my thoughts since the 1990's. I've given it a new name and number because of the many FA-57 variants I'd been churning out. Think of it as the FA-18 Hornet that came after the YF-17 Cobra.

Feel free to repaint or redistribute any of these, so long as you give me credit for the original design.[/moddesc]
[instmod]Unzip it to your main YS directory. NOTE: This will overwrite your old Flyboy files![/instmod][/mod]

Have any of you found the target locator arrow useful (on the FA-59)? I've been trying to think of ways to improve / expand on this idea. Not so much for ground targets - more for dogfighting, to let you know if someone's right behind you, or which way to turn to line up the nearest target. Do we call this cheating, or is it a "technological edge"?

Going by the standards they taught me at the 27th fighter wing falcon 4.0 squadron top gun program.. using anything but your eyes for that would be cheating.. In the virtual arena. What you're refering to is a automatic lift vector "thing" that shows you which way you need to turn your lift vector to get the best geometry on the closest bogey?

I could see it very usefull in a admin plane situation, but a dogfighter in every way shape and form should be able to use his joystick, or view keys to keep an eye out, imo.

Quick Tweak / FA59.dat:
If you delete or REM out the line with "TURRETGD 9" the targeting arrow will stop pointing at ground targets, which was the original intention. I thought having "TURRETGD 9 FALSE" would have solved this problem, but the TRUE/FALSE argument doesn't seem to do anything. Removing the line altogether does the trick.
