Philippines?

Post by Hawkstar » Wed Jan 11, 2012 4:37 am

Hey guys, first request of mine this year.

Well its map that i was wishing to have on YSFlight since the start and i was kinda hoping if someone is eager of doing that favor.

Well the map is the Philippines. Its not as big as USA48 but its a bit bigger than Hawaii. I dont care if it will take months but i'll be ore than happy if youre able to make this map since im in Canada and i cant go back to Philippines...yet, I could keep this map in YSFlight as remembrance of my country of origin and i can still say i am "Proud to be Pinoy" especially in YSFlight.

It might be a while since Philippines has a 7,107 islands. Has lot of great tourist attractions and mostly some islands can be reached by boat.

Philippines is also ideal for roadtrips and lots of em also since its an archipelago, boats is also our common mode of transportation at sea.

Also there is a few big and lots of small airports or just airfields. Philippines is mostly a dense jungle and a perfect spot for tourists visiting the tropical islands of my nation.

Also this will also be a great challenge and goal-setter for the map maker.

7000 islands would take a long ass time even if you were working full time on them.
IF you were doing just the major Regions (1-13 and ARMM, CAR and NCR) it would still take a while, but it would be slightly more manageable

Yeah, I did wiki the philippines. :D

I was looking for a map and found out about the regions. How wide/tall approximately is it? Just trying to gain an idea about the size of the whole thing

As far as project size goes, I'd recon that doing the Phillipines Map is just about as much work as doing the Japan Map;
and as far as I know, that map has not been put together into a one-piece map set yet either. But, as I am not a part
of the YSFlight Japan Community, I might not know if they have one put together recently.
The fact that the Pillipines is less densely populated may make some of the detail work less of a hassle though.
Here is a visual of both areas at the same scale. It too may have to be a project and a half.

So, whoever gets it, is gonna get it. Good Luck, Mazel Tov, Much Success!

If you guys get the Phillipines Map done, then I'll do a Casablanca class CVE and recreate Taffy-3 off Samar.

Might i suggest people break the work and create individual islands, all based upon a center point at a fixed Latitude and longitude?
That way, you can spread the work load out and be able to assimilate all the parts easily.

If each person takes their (0,0,0) point to be at a common position, and have the island at (10,000, 0, 34,532), that island and any of it's start positions can be imported into main .fld and .stp at (0,0,0), making it easy to do.

Something like that. But with a lot of makers, it would make everything unique. It would be good if you laid out a series of basic colors, (land, water, gradation colors, shallow water, etc) that way, everything would look like they belonged together.

As in a fully paved map, can drive anywhere at any speed.

When you get finished with the map, instead of putting runway/taxiway rectangular areas around each airport, put one big runway rectangular area around the entire map.

That's what I did to aomori. I paved the whole thing and added my own start positions. It's in YS as a separate map so son't worry about me using it on severs.

This isn't a bad idea at all. The referencing of the overall complete map would be a pain however this is far from impossible. Like I've said before, I'd love to dedicate my work however it's in 3 other places at the time and I can't stretch myself any further for a while. I may pop up one island or area every now and then as a recreational project. If someone wants to start this make a WIP topic for it and update it as people grab their parts. In other words do it like Project Atlas and let people do what they want to do but keep an eye on how it's going. Then everyone taking part in the project can post how they're doing in that thread. Same with Japan which is probably already out there or most of it since the stock maps in YS are of Japanese areas (even though Naha is way off). Anyways this is a really cool idea and sounds like it's gonna pan out in the future. Just find someone to break ground and it'll be a go.

Also Hawkstar I suggest giving scenery editor and all the tutorials a hand. It's not incredibly hard and is a lot like art in some ways. I wouldn't say it's easier or harder than repainting but it's along those lines. However it's something you can be totally original with when you want to. Give it a practice and play around with it.
