New York City

Post by Maroon 5 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:29 pm

I tried to post a request for New Yorkwhen I had exactly 20 posts; my request was deleted ( I think ) but I'm requesting again. If someone wants to remove this topic, could you at least send me a PM saying why?

Anyway, I think it would be a good idea to have a semi-detailed New York City Map, with the Twin Towers, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State building, etc. Thanks.

I don't feel comfortable having The Towers in there. After all, this is a flight sim...some idiot is gonna try it. If you do do it (add them), don't forget the new building that they're putting up right next to the old foundations.

Great idea! But instead of the Twin Towers, I recommend you use the new WTC instead (One World Trade Center, ex-Freedom Tower, right?) And don't forget that you will need New Jersey.

Just wondering - if you make the twin towers with elevation grid, that will make them indestructible.

BTW, I've been crashing into buildings in NYC long before it was fashionable. That was waaaay back in the days of MS Flight Sim 2, on an IBM XT with a 4.77MHz CPU. The Towers were never my target though, they were way too big and easy a target for a Cessna. I prefer to fly between them (like the Millenium Falcon flying between canyon walls in the asteroid field), then went on and smash into the Statue of Liberty, right in her face.

(Yup, before most of you were born.)

I don't think that the Statue of Liberty even had a face in that game.

The new WTC would be a good idea, but it would be nice to make a separate map with the Twin Towers set to be indestructable and older NYC buildings in. Also, I didn't mean to make anyone angry with me saying i was going to make a tribute in my first (deleted) post. I was actually just going to use the Twin Towers by themselves ( a screenshot) and the planes that crashed separately. Sorry.

no... i wasn't going to do that either. just a pic of the twin towers in YSFS in a video, like a bunch of FSX pilots do (search 9/11 tribute fsx on youtube... none of the videos have the planes crashing).

how about you make a transparent cylinder around major buildings so you blow up 100 feet away from your target?

I'm not really sure... you might have to do it in Blender. However, a good idea might be to replace the Twin Towers' coll.srf file with null.srf so an airplane would just pass through, and also set up a missile system to intercept airliners violating prohibited airspace. (Tip from Patrick 31337)

What if they dodge the missiles or have a plane set to strength 10000000 to ward off civil killers?

that would be annoying... thought the null.srf trick would still work, unless they decide to be an asshole and re-make the coll.srf file. Otherwise, I don't really have an answer. Try asking Gunny or Shutter.

How about we just go with the main plan and not have the towers at all. ;)
