Forgive me for saying this, but did I do something wrong, plunderbird?

Also, the X-29 first flew at Edwards AFB. The base was renamed after test pilot Glen Edwards. A pilot of the YB-49 Flying Wing.

(I refuse to post the obvious "related aircraft" of the YB-49. Instead I give you this.)

In the history of Edwards AFB there is a long list of experimental aircraft that looked good on paper but could never quite work out in reality. The YB-49 was one of them. The Ryan X-13 Vertijet is another:

Under the HAVE DOUGHNUT (wtf was the person naming the program thinking?)Program, Area 51 aka Homey airport was the operating base for a MiG-21 used the USAF for testing.
It's this aircraft:

As far as I was concerned yes. You did a maker to same maker link. I thought this was wrong, as type to type varients are not alowed.

As for links. This might be wrong... Area 51 also was the home to some ex russian Hind helo's.
Fliped out of the arena, again! :(

The Fishbed is rather a remarkable aircraft, and was an aircraft flown by Danny Shapira, Israels chief test pilot for many years.

In fact he even tested the spitfire for them.

A more interesting link - Avia produced aircraft up to 1963. The company then transformed itself into a truck manufacturer, although still maintaining an aircraft engine division. The Avia brand now has two divisions - truck, and an aircraft propeller section. Avia propellers still equipped many current production aircraft, such as the LET L-410 Turbolet:

Dang, from the description I was hoping to see a flying truck.

Anyways, the Fiat g55 centauri was produced by a manufacturer involved in both the automotive and aviation industries as well.

"The Macchi could easily out-turn most other fighter types, and could get the better of the P-51 Mustang, but it was always the Spitfires that caused us trouble"-Sgt. Emilio Tarantola

He was mostly referring to the Mark 5 Spits that served in North Africa and Italy, FYI.

I'm pretty sure that the Hawker Tempest is in its own class, not a variant of the Typhoon...

Oh well, it is understandable...

Image

Like the Typhoon, the Republic P-47 was used more frequently as a ground attack aircraft during the closing stages of WW2.

"British pilots were astounded when they saw the huge fighter, since it hardly seemed such a big aircraft could get off the ground, much less engage in air combat. The British joked that a Thunderbolt pilot could defend himself from a Luftwaffe fighter by running around and hiding in the fuselage."

Unlike the P-47, Typhoon or Tempest the North American Mustang was designed to be a ground attacker but was best as a Fighter (The Opposite of the Above)

the Me-163 also was good at more than its original purpose, And though it was a good interceptor, it could dogfight!
