Block Island WIP!

Post by Barr »

Block Island is a small island off the coast of Rhode Island, USA. Its a pretty place to do some scenic flying has only one airport. I finished the land part all I need to do is make the airport (the one I made looks cheesey to me, gotta fix that) and make roads add some houses etc... Im having some trouble making the airport maybe someone can help me.... mostly its the length and width of the runway im having trouble with

Added the link its at the bottom

That looks really, really good. Keep at it.

This has the potential to be one of the best detailed maps in YSF. You have the skills and a little more detail, like different green colors for the ground would really accent it. Throw in a few roads and it would be amazing. :D

You can use this to help with most north american airports. Pretty much all of them are on here including some runway dimensions and other information that can be used in YS. You can use the dimensions here to draw the runway in it's own "map" and then just move it to the precise location you want it.

EDIT: Must have been busy enough to forget the link

You can use what VNAF1; there doesn't appear to be any there there, am I over-looking a link somewhere?

He might have been just trying to describe the technique. I normally build my runways in there, but making them separate makes so much sense now...

Thanks for the comments guys!!! BTW I have a question....

How can I make the runway end lights red one one side and green on the other like in real life?

Yup! Just select the color you want in the color pallet and then make the Runway lights in the map->insert item. :D

I personally like to use the approach light option because they twinkle pretty.

I've been thinking the same question myself lately here Barracuz. I thought of an idea while I was laying in bed (for some reason I get good ideas while trying to go to sleep  ). Maybe it would work if you put a set of red lights closer to the runway and a set of green ones farther (I'm talking like less than 1 meter though) and then in between you could raise an elevation grid "wall" to separate the two so that only one set is seen from either direction. Only problem this would cause is probably something weird when someone overruns the runway. They may go over, they might crash. I mean the wall would only be maybe .2-.4m thick and maybe only .2m high to try to keep it as unnoticable as possible. And maybe shade it the same color as the ground in that area so it blends in. You could give that a shot and see if it works. It may and it may not but it's just an idea anyways.

Seriously guys use red approach light for end of runway and green point array for beginning of usable runway. The strobe affect of the approach light will delineate the two with out having to install a rumble strip. ;)
