Latest YSFlight Test Version has been released.
2013/04/16
- Made GUI appearance nicer.
- Removed CPU-Rendered binary of YSFLIGHT for Windows
- Added OpenGL 2.0 / ES 2.0 support. (fsmaino2.exe in Windows, ysflight2 in Linux, and in MacOSX)
- Removed 2D instrument panel and simple HUD.
- Air-route can be set in the map and computer airplanes can follow the route.
- Added Landing-Analysis tab in the simulation result.
- Landing autopilot does not lock on to an ILS of different IFF.
- Landing autopilot goes around if another airplane is on the runway.
- If an airport satisfies certain condition, multiple airplanes can go in and out of an airport. (Deadlock-free airport. I'll upload the condition soon.)
- Can configure a cockpit like HUD in the primary cockpit view and Instrument panel in one of extra view. (Experimenting with F-15DJ)
- Dogfight autopilot will cruise at 30,000ft to the target if the distance is farther than 40NM.

I've been asked to report any bugs found with the test version. So, if you find anything - post it here or contact me directly. Thanks.

Fsmaino2 fails to start. Error code c000005 (unhandled exception if I am not mistaken?)
Exact same crash that happens when using some of PMNV grounds.
There could be a buffer overflow when accessing model memory/drawing memory? Hard problem to solve.

Reported. I've found quite a few bugs myself. I don't want to bog him down too much, so I'll keep it one at a time.

I can run OpenGL2 fine on Win7. Clouds are funky.
In D3D, anything blue or black goes transparent in the aircraft selection screen. It's fine in all the other render methods though. (AMD video card)
I've made a dedicated bug topic
here.

Well, in all of this negativity, let's post something positive! I am really loving the AI planes on some maps, and the ability to switch between vehicles! I think this could really have a profound effect if it could be integrated online (but I doubt this), but I really do love just moving from vehicle to vehicle and drifting fuel trucks. Maybe if we have controllable ground objects online we could have a Formula D series.

Am I back? Probably not.

Seems to work fine on mac! suck it windows!

JK
I will have to do more testing, but I think that this awesome. The grey GUI is a little wierd after so long with blue, but hey, it works.
As for shiny-ness, It looks okay. I will have to test with some addons to see what the clear cockpits look like there.

- Removed 2D instrument panel and simple HUD.
Any reason for this? As a person who plays ys mainly for combat, I enjoy the simple version due to less clutter on my screen and able to tell exactly when I should start limiting my fuel instead of trying to guess why my fuel level is at on the new HUD version.
After messing around with the new version, it seems that the mouse control is significantly different compared to the stable release.

I concur on this one. I can't use the more complex HUD either. My desktop monitor is 15" (granted, I will be upgrading to a newer monitor or even computer at some point, but that's not going to be in the near term). I have sent him an email to kindly re-instate the simple HUD as it is the only thing I use when flying. The more realistic HUD doesn't display large enough when I have tested it, and some of the areas are not readable. I hope he reinstates that, otherwise I won't be able to use this latest version. :/ I am looking forward to cloud skimming for the first time in YSFS

I stopped next to a jeep and sat for like 10 minutes trying to get the button to activate. is there some praticular orientation that you need to be in to make it work? some button that you have to press (not the one that shows up when you stop)
Another thing that I noticed was that the ground shines like the planes...kinda wierd.

Okay I did some testing, and yes that was the button i was trying to press. Unfortunatly for me it was greyed out. Turns out I have to be pointed nose first into the target vehicle. Problem solved.

I've noticed a few ultra major things and maybe I didn't do something right. I see black and grey clouds mixed up with white clouds, sometimes more on addon maps like one of mine, but also in stock maps. Also, is the ground supposed to be really shiny? I think it looks really weird. It's not too bad on the planes but looks bad on mountains and e-grid trees, buildings, etc. Is anyone else seeing these issues? If not it's probably the way I downloaded the test version to preserve my addons.

Everything has the same shinyness.
It is really wierd for the runway to suddenly disappear just as you fly over it, but that is what is happening.

With VNAF bringing up the clouds, that brings me to another cool thing. I'm really glad that we now have (slightly) translucent clouds!
