Got this system at the start of the year; dunno if I've mentioned it in here:

i5 3570K @4GHz (could go higher, but haven't needed to).
AMD HD7970
16GB DDR3 (Corsair; it was on special and almost the same price as most 2x4GB packs)
750GB + 1TB + 2TB HDDs
240GB, 1GB/s (8Gbps) read, 750MB/s write SSD (via PCI-E)
NZXT Phantom (black) case

1x 1920x1080 23" monitor
1x 1920x1200 24" monitor

Runs most games fine on their max settings.

I'm also looking to get another 23" to help with programming and to run games with silly FOVs.

Wow, you actually had money to buy a decent graphics card. My setup is nearly the same, but I ran out of money and I kept my 6670. I OC'd mine to 4'2: if you're doing video editing, or any other stuff that needs powah, OC is worth the weight. What are you doing with that, anyways?

Overall nothing super specific - my formal excuse is that I need it to perform simulations (running circuit simulations at high levels of fidelity does actually take a bit of grunt).

The real reason though is gaming (and a little video editing); it was somewhat a waste, seeing as I rarely get time to play games (although now that the holidays and exam period is coming up...). It's still good being able to just download a game and play it though; no concerning yourself over upgrades, etc.

It has failed me once though; long story short, the SSD failed once, and I can't use it again properly unless I spend a chunk of a weekend setting it up again.

Think I need an update?

Nahh, this is mine.

Core i5, windows 7 64bit and 674GB, and a 6GB RAM. Nice and fast
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

8 GBs of RAM is more than enough, but I don't know anything about circuit simulations, so you might need those 16.
It's way too much, if you're not doing heavy video editing, or rendering scenes in 3D.

My 460 is feeling the burden that is BF4.....I'm thinking about getting a 660 or 670, something that ought to work for another couple years.

760 should suit you better in my opinion. Only about $50 more than the 660 and can run basically any game on 1080 no problem.

If you have 500 to spend, go for an AMD R9 290X. Better than the 780 being 150 bucks cheaper, and on the heels of the Titan. Just came out a week ago.

Intel Celeron-D single-core 2.2GHz
2GB of RAM
Intel HD onboard graphics card
Realtek HD audio card
Windows 7 Home Edition

Got this thing in late 2010, and it is a POS to use, especially on games that require more resources. The obvious lack of processing power and graphics capability (and not to mention my 60kb/s internet speeds) leaves me with limited options of games, and games from the seventh-generation are generally out of the question.

Not to mention, its fucking screen malfunctioned after 4 months of using it, and now all the colors are screwed up...

(Mildly) pimped out Dell ;)

3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 (best CPU in the history of the universe)
4GB DDR2 RAM
Radeon HD 5400

So yeah, not the greatest PC to grace this thread.
