Weather in your area 2014

Post by Turbofan » Sun Feb 02, 2014 4:31 pm

Alright so it's kind of a late start on this edition but here we go anyway...

The first of a parade of three winter storms to be impacting our state. Round one has been underway today, getting light to moderate snow (about 4 inches here so far) and travel conditions are pretty bad. Good thing is it's Sunday so not many people are out, most have stayed home. Currently 22F, with a windchill of 10F and snowing. Round two comes late tomorrow night into Tuesday, and then round 3 appears to be coming in on late Thursday into Friday. It's going to be a long winter...

It's a bit chilly, about 15 degrees, but many people here still roll with 3 layers of clothing. Flu is also rather noticeable, even I also had some symptoms, but I didn't have to miss school. Sky's cloudy, but it hasn't rained for 2 weeks now.

Anyone watching the news probably saw what happened to Louisiana this past week. As if to spite us, it jumped up to the 60-70s.....

27 degrees Celsius all year round.
Does mean that tropical diseases such as dengue are endemic though.

Houston is having it's annual bipolar weather making us all sick again. I got hit hard by allergies followed by coughing, the flu, stomach flu, sinus pain. In that order.

Sizzling days but chilly nights...

Everyday it sizzling at noon and chilly at dawn till dusk...
It's getting more extreme since the chilly winds from the north began to blow southwards.
I'm sweating in my school uniform at school and by night I'm wearing a sweater like I'm in freaking Antartica...
The contrast is so big, you almost wouldn't believe it unless your a local.

And I don't think I've ever felt this dehydrated since ever. BRB drinking all the water from a plastic bottle in 1 go...

I like it when its warm in the day and cold at night. Warm though not cold. Makes sleeping so sweeeet. Warm in day just not to feel the cold so much.

Currently 30F with a NNE wind around 2 mph. We just had system #4 pass over last night into this morning; the metro lucked out with nothing on the ground, while both northern and southern OK got some snow. The metro lucked out yesterday morning too, since freezing drizzle just south of here sent cars going off I-35 left and right if they were going too fast, (and many were since black ice doesn't show itself too well).

All in all, five rounds of winter weather since last Monday. But, it probably was not much compared to what GA and SC are preparing for.

Windy very very windy. Gale force winds up to 44 mph with predicted gusts of up to 60/90 mph with temperatures around 7 degrees Celsius with a reel feel of -1. Colleges and schools are closed due to damage and power outages as me and my brother found out while driving to college only having to turn back due to tailbacks of traffic and dangerous driving conditions. There is also a massive risk of flooding to areas near the coast as the rough seas and wind combines to create massive waves possibly up to 24 ft. Not able to surf them though. :o

We just got caked in a fresh 8 inches of snow, Travel conditions bad, but a lot of fast snow-melt in the afternoon, due to highs in the 35-40s and lows in the 20s.

Basically.
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

Similar weather here yesterday:

Image

Unfortunately I was required outdoors for the majority of it, and we weren't prepared yet for the weather onset (reports were suggesting as little as 5mm of rain). In the end we got 12mm in the first 15 minutes and then over the next few hours, another 21mm on top of that - this started yesterday around 3pm; my boots only became dry at about 7pm today...

^We could definitely use some of that rain here, especially in the southwest part of the state where it's been a drought for the past 4 years now. And it's expanding back to our area as well.

Currently 30F, with a calm wind, which will be changing rather quickly as the day progresses. SW winds 15-30 with gusts to 36 mph today, with a high fire danger. At least the winds will not be out-of-control crazy like yesterday (from the NW at 20-40 with gusts to 50 or 60).
