EX-50 Next Gen Business Jet

Post by decaff_42 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 12:42 am

Howdy all!

I recently finished an aircraft design class, and I gotta say I'm really happy with the results. My partner (MASTER BLENDER MODELER) made some really cool renders of the aircraft.

Our aircraft uses two 7000 lbf PW308C medium bypass turbofan engines, and cruises at 38,000 ft at 480kt.

the blender model has more than 152,000 vertices and 140,000 faces.

Here are a few renders my partner made (LARGE IMAGE WARNING!)

Here's a 3-View drawing of the aircraft with some basic dimensions

Yup, and the Hondajet, for the engine placement. The idea with the avanti is that the Forward Lifting surface, stalls first, automatically pitching the aircraft down to pick up speed and recover from the stall. It, along with the tail provide lift, which is abnormal for most aircraft where the tail actually has to apply it's lift down to help with the pitching of the aircraft. Another reason for the wings being really far back is so the rear seats are directly over the wing box, keeping the cabin as tall as possible. Also, the T tail has some bad stall characteristics at high alpha where the wing blankets the horizontal tail, making the forward lifting surface really helpful for preventing that.

Out of the entire class, we probably had the one of the top two or three most complete or realistic aircraft.

And quite fittingly so. I'm guessing your modding experience in YS pitched in to help a little as well. That's a great looking and functioning aircraft, congrats!

My general rant: I will call them blended winglets, not Sharklets; There is no CEO, it's just simply put, an Airbus 319/320/321, or the 320NEO, 321NEO etc. I didn't land IN DAL, I landed AT DAL. On the other hand, I did land in Dallas.

thanks!

But my modeling experience in YSF came into play more about general aircraft trends around the wing root than the actual modeling. If anything, several of the most recent videos about modifiers and such are derived from some techniques I learned from him. :D He interned at Sikorsky and made some stupidly amazing blender models of the UH-60 and it's variants.
