Is this a legitimate question?

Of course it is able to be done.

You dive towards the target, say -10 - -20 degrees and let it rip.

Give it a go. small town in Airstrike Challange map, have fun.

In order to strafe successfully, it's best to take the nature of your target into account. AAA and SAMs are best attacked from a more shallow angle at low altitude - below 100-200 ft. When shooting a moving target, you may need to aim a little ahead of it, just as you would for an aircraft. Some targets have a minimum damage setting above the gun power setting for your aircraft, which means those targets will take no damage when you shoot them - most stock warships are a good example.
When online, strafing a manned aircraft on the ground is called vulching, and is generally against the rules on most servers.

strafing is acutally easier say than done, aways crash into the ground or force to pull up when i dive at an enemy, at the end of the run, usually the enemy is alive and well :(
is there any hints on how to strafe longer...
or is it just my air strike skills sucks

try diving slower and start dive a little higher for things like tanks but to kill aaa and aa come below 500 ft and dive 5 to 20 degrees then as flake just said 'let it rip"

My biggest hint would be to use the zoom feature, mapped by default to the mouse scroll wheel. This will give you a better look at the target, and the smaller view area may encourage you to make smaller control inputs, which results in more accurate shooting.

Remember to pull out with enough altitude if you are hitting the pavement! I find for a hefty dive (ie: 40 deg or more) 500-1000ft is good. It's all about knowing your aircraft too.

Using the lock target view( O - > 2 - > 5) in the right subwindow(or left) can give a better view of the target and where the bullets are going.

Not many people know about that feature - good point!

Ive seen many tactics for this. I was taught the sub window method. I try to use it as it does work. But If you use a mouse the best I think is to zoom. Joystick, use sub window.
Strafing runs are not the most effective on YS anyway. :D
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

The sub-window method does not typically work for rockets and bombs that I usually use, so I just zoom in and aim.

I use neither the joystick nor the mouse, as I feel that the keyboard gives me more stability. Hence, I just zoom in as my mouse is feeed up.

For a moving target I say its best to attack from behind. This way you wont have to lower your nose for aiming(as in the case of attack the target from its front) and crash yourself while attcking at very low altitudes.
