Flanker Squadron Skin

Post by [FDF] TheFurNinja » Sat Jun 14, 2014 7:06 pm

Hello there modders!
My squadron is getting its roots here in YSF, and we want to stop borrowing 241st Black Flankers for our Fighter fleet, and I have no Idea how to make new skins (took a look at blender, but it was all so complicated and vague that I didn't want to mess anything up XD).

So I want to make a request for a 241st Black Flanker to be re-skinned to our squadron's colors. This will be the first of many FDF aircraft.

Here is a reference sheet to show you the pattern.
Image
I would also like the name to be changed to [FDF]_Su-35/37 Flanker (I feel that name fits the aircraft's performance much better)

If you have a question about any of the details you can PM me here or find me on the YSFHQ TS (poke me If I look inactive, I'm likely not)

Thank you for your time,
TheFurNinja

Addons in YS are not skinned. Instead, the polygons are individually edited and painted in the pattern and colour desired. That is why the appearance of YS addons will always be sharper than any game that employs skins.
Ergo, what you're requesting isn't necessarily a simple task, but potentially a major undertaking.
You may want to exploe other Flanker addons to see if their paint scheme is at least easier to change to.
And as for the name you want, you can do that yourself. Open the .dat file of an addon with a text editor and its name will be at the top for you to change.
Protip: The .dat is what tells the model how to perform in the game, so if you want a certain addon because of how it performs in game, it's the .dat file that makes that happen.

Ok, understood.

But what I'm requesting still has the effect of "Skinning". Wouldn't you just be able to re-color the polygons? That's all I'm asking: to take a already built aircraft and change its appearance.

Or is there something I'm not getting?

Again thanks for the help,
TheFurNinja

Really I haven't seen the 241st Flanker, so I've no idea. If it's exactly the same pattern as you're wanting, but just in different colours, then yah, you should be good to go.
You'd do very well to obtain permission first though.

I thought that, but I haven't seen any 241st around :\

Who created this mysterious and wondrous fighter, I don't know either.

Otherwise I would of asked permission a long time ago...

I will give credit to him though. I'm not here to steal, just feels weird when your tag says [FDF] and you are flying another squadrons plane.

Email or PM this guy.

Yea I think they dont allow their planes to be repainted for squadron use. Send him a pm pretty sure that due to the inactivity of the 241st he'll grant permission.

I was wondering that too, but the Flanker isn't on the readme's list of no-permission models. Welnio may very well agree to let it be repainted.

If I'm not wrong the Su-27 from the 241st pack is already a repaint...

If so, it's unfortunately uncredited. Welnio didn't do much repainting. He liked originals.

I did a tonne of work on the packs, but I'm sure it's obvious to you I wasn't involved in this Flanker, or this issue would be resolved already, right? If Welnio says yes, or can't be contacted, my experience would say that our Fur-baby here has made every reasonable effort to not step on others' toes and could adopt the model with a clear conscience.
Then it's just a question of someone picking it up and doing the work for him.

Pretty stupid question yes. Please ignore.

Anywho welnio was on yesterday so shouldn't take long.

Also I would like to take a stab at it. Simple shapes and colors, looks you just need to select faces and paint no cutting required. And the logo looks easy as well. I downloaded the plane and FDF logo and noted the two colors. So we just need a name to credit...

I was just emailing Welnio yesterday because I didn't know if he was still active on the forums. He replied in short order. He's a pretty flexible guy, and good to work with. If you do end up talking to him, give him a link to this topic.
He may still say no, but you're at least going about this the right way, and I'm sure you'll respect his wishes.

Well, Welnio wasn't the creator, he just modified the base version.

[Searching Intensifies]

EDIT: Found em'. Its Umaibow, but I can't seem to find him on the forums. Where should I contact him?

Ok if I'm reading the japanese readme correctly it looks like it oranleeds model, so all we have to do is credit oranleed when the mod is released.
