Mr. Funnybone's Workshop

Post by MrFunnybone »

So I got into modding recently and finally I decided to make a Work in progress thread. This is where I will post my current projects.

Current Projects:

Convair 880 and 990 addons.

cONVAIR 880 INFO:
Wikipedia wrote:The Convair 880 was a narrow-body jet airliner produced by the Convair division of General Dynamics. It was designed to compete with the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 by being smaller and faster, a niche that failed to create demand. When it was first introduced some aviation circles claimed that at 615 mph (990 km/h) it was the fastest jet transport in the world. Only 65 Convair 880s were produced over the lifetime of the production run from 1959 to 1962, and General Dynamics eventually withdrew from the airliner market after considering the 880 project a failure. The Convair 990 was a stretched and faster variant of the 880.

I do enjoy watching people making aircraft, especially the ones I vaguely know or never hear of before. Best of luck!

I got the idea from some of skylines meshes in his dropbox

-- Sat Jan 25, 2014 2:52 pm --

Was busy over the week so I didn't do much, but I was able to make the main gears, needs some scaling because it looks kinda long and spindly but hopefully the huge gear doors will cover it up enough.

-- Sat Feb 08, 2014 6:35 pm --

Hi again, I just did some work today, started and finished All of the gear doors, now after i make the interior of the wheel well, I will start going down my to do list:

1. Finish the gears
2. Create the flaps
3. Elevators, rudder, ailerons and slats should be easy and basic
4. Make some doors
5 animate it all
6. Create transparent cockpit
7. make a basic cockpit to be viewed from the outside (Separate later and export to create a cockpit base)
8 make the model for the cockpit file
9. Add windows
10. paint!
11. release :D

Heres an issue thats been bothering me for the past month : Image

I do not think it is a shading error, i've tried using unshadow scripts, I've tried deleting the polygons and remaking it, I've tried separating it, and I've tried adjusting the angle. Can someone help me with this, because I think this is what happened to the wing too.

PS I was actually able to get rid of the error at one point but I forgot to save the changes and can't remember what I did to remove it.

P.P.S And yes I know there is a hole in the landing gear :D

are you talking about the different colored meshes in the solid view mode? It most likely is a material being applied to one mesh, but not the other.

Take a look at this tutorial:

Rarer addons like this are absolutely my preference in YS Fight. Heck, this might even get me playing again. Great work you're doing there.

or u jelly of me DC-10 lol  jk

Btw the Convair looks a little too small. It currently takes up about half the grid floor as I can see from the pics you posted. Are you sure it is that small?

Yeah that looks a little small too. I know you can fiddle with the grid size, so you may have changed the grid dimensions, but there are only 5 or 6 lines intersecting the fuselage forward of the y-axis. Remember that by default each of those lines represents 1 meter. if you have not gotten too far down the road with animations, we can talk about a simple but a little time consuming way to fix it without any issues later on down the road which will happen if you use the normal scaling option in blender.

Same, only problem is finding good references for these planes, sometimes for the small little details I have to use my imagination

I have only animated the rudder, and TBH i'm not really happy with it, it kinda swings up and clips through the tail when going from left and right. so I will probably change it. I also was under that impression the size wouldn't matter, and that the SUZY tool scripts are used to scale it up for YSflight

You will have to resize every srf file individually, unless there is a dnm scale script that I haven't found.
