As part of the project to revitalise the civilian side of HQ Varren and myself are planning some events to try and show what the community is all about. this poll is to ask you, the people of HQ what you would like to see!
The options are -
- A landing contest - This will take place in airports that are notorious for their tricky approaches!) There will also be a real life prize for whoever comes in first place.
An ATC session - These are not new to the civilian side, but are a great way to get the civilian side together and display what they are about.)
A fly in! - A large group of flights fly into an airport.
A mass flight/tour - A group of aircraft embark on a tour of the map, visiting each of the airports located on the map

I think all of the above are great ideas. But if I have to narrow it down I think the landing skills contest is the best idea.

My opinion is the same as Gunny's. I like all of them, but a landing contest is a new idea so it got my vote.

We'll probably end up doing them all, this'll just determine the order.

+1 Landing Contest.
I am an accountant working full-time (and some). I'm not here as often as I would like to be. Send a message if you need me. There are a few people in the community who can get in contact with me urgently if you need - don't be afraid to ask. I just don't check here as frequently as I used to. Sorry!

You don't want to be caught breaking their rules though, they give out some hefty fines lol

It seems that the landing contest idea is very popular, yet I've never experienced one in YS so I'd like to see how that goes. I think of Fly-ins and ATC events as about the same thing though, not really separate things.
I'm eager to see how the AirFest Arrival Day (Rehearsal Day) goes as it's definitely the first of its kind in YS

^We actually had a spontaneous landing contest last year when Scarecrow and Venom were around. That was lots of fun.
A fly-in to an airport would be great as well, although the airport will need to have more than just the one or two runways YS maps tend to have.
Like Cashville Metropolitan International Airport, for example *cough* cough*

Just a personal thought but an ATC session in conjunction with the landing skills contest would be fantastic since ATC and landing skills are pretty much inseparable in my humble opinion

i think the landing contest should be about the most creative ways to land an aircraft, and not about your ILS skills.

How about a 15mph crosswind landing event?

The most creative way to land an airplane is not to crash it.And it does take skill to precisely land an airplane taking direction from a controller. The free landings are easy and no ILS need be used it should be all visual unless a night landing contest is gona happen.Hum not a bad idea at that

The landing contest would go in stages, so it would start of with fairly calm conditions, we would maybe use 2 maps known for the airports
And through the use of OpenYS we would make visibility lower and winds stronger, glad to see you guys are interested!

Who needs ILS when you can go manual

Better start doing some of the built-in landing practice
