Would the landing practice be something related to the Valdez style contest (i.e. super short-field takeoff and landing) or something like flying a 747 through a ravine and landing on a 2000ft runway?

perhaps the landing contest could include an aircraft carrier event. using both jets and helicopters.

Landing an A380 or B777 on a carrier deck is fun, but I would rather the landings be at least mildly realistic.

I suggest we do this in categories.
1. Single-engine prop (Cessna 172,182, etc.)
2. Twin-engine prop (Beechcraft Baron, etc.)
3. Business jet class (Learjet, Citation, etc.)
4. Commercial airliner (B737, 777, etc.)

I'm assuming well be doing different landing procedures like the landing practices in the sim.

It would be nice if we can get diffrent tough airports as well. Totonicapan, taca and maybe even new maps like lukla!

hopefully soji releases a test version with NASA srtm elevation data capabilities.

Well that's the plan you see, if we can't get maps created in time then we will use prebuilt maps.

Bumping to let you guys know we haven't forgotten, we started planning and then got caught up in staff business. Currently we're waiting on a decision that's yet to be made by staff that could change the nature of the event before we proceed further. Rough estimate is sometime in September for the day of the event.

I suggest for the landing competition 2 classes VFR approach's and IFR approach's,Judged for precision of maneuvering and the closet touchdown to the numbers. Also possibly these could be ATC guided for departure and approaches.
Edit: With random weather conditions day/night.
