Server Errors by the user joining.

Post by Gunny » Sat Jan 23, 2016 5:50 pm

Never fails I decide to join a well maintained and administered server once in a blue moon and some air headed user comes along with an error filled aircraft .lst file usually a newbie or unnamed and screws it up.My forbearance has reached its end for server flying because no matter how the admins try to error proof there servers unfortunately they can not idiot newbie proof it.Rant over and out.

He joined in a GAC plane. I am guessing you don't have GAC installed?

This is a YSF problem. Only Captain YS himself can fix it. It's been a problem for a few years now, you would think he would know about it.

Yesterday while cruising someone joined the server and my YS crashed after a load of error messages. Annoying.

the only time i have problems with errors in aircraft during server use is when someone joins and i have an aircraft with an error in either the .dat file or the .lst file. in which case i hunt down the aircraft and either try to repair the error or i prevent the aircraft from loading. it's a bit of a pain in the butt to do, but it's worth it :)

You must not have updated the NCA pack with the A300 yet? I took off and you vanished.

========================

I'm seriously considering making a sharp reduction in the number of aircraft I have installed. I'm thinking of limiting it to virtual airlines and my GA planes, Simple Airliners, and maybe some of Decaff's and Namjicreative's stuff. If I cut down the number of aircraft and get rid of the rarely-used stuff so that there are only about 10 packs to download, it will be a lot easier for everyone to keep their addons updated.
EDIT: You'll notice I left off TF58. He had a few errors in his packs.

Well there are many planes nobody flies. for example no one flies the 241st of vfa49 packs on public servers, they use their own private ones. Then you have all the airliner repaints like NWA, YGL and what not. Then we have all the other militrary craft and massive repaint packs like tigershark

This may be a problem with dat values. Someone connecting with a 2011 ys version onto your OYS server running 2015 ys but with flake's adaptation. The older client freaks out when encountering new dats?

Oh, and I always fly 49th aircraft wherever I go. I just haven't poked my head around Pat's server enough (that'll change)

I actually have OYS operating in a folder using the 2013 version of YSF. I might try installing the addons in an old version from before the problems started. 2009?

But it shouldn't matter, right? It's the YSF client having the errors.

The error is dual sided usually:

YSF Network Protocal has a "Aircraft Command" packet, which is pretty much just sending a .DAT value (This is how YSF Servers enforce specific aircraft performance.)

Of course, the server could have a dodgy .DAT and thus everyone using that aircraft will throw an error.

But also the issue could be your local .DAT file is invalid.

The enforcement doesn't exist on OYS servers.

So if you get the issue, just try and fix the relevent .DAT in your PC yourself, and if that's not the issue, try and get the server owner to fix it. I don't see any other way for the error to occur.

Ok, but why does it only happen when another person is flying an aircraft not installed on the crashed end?
