And yes at one point I thought they had lost it to a flat spin whew close call so close to the ground. But like the old saying goes any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

The guy who came up with that line probably didn't live very long putting it into practice.Gunny wrote:the old saying goes any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

What you're seeing there (at least in the 3rd part) is Dutch Roll... a cyclic condition of conflicting stability tendencies and aerodynamic forces that make the aircraft do a sort of pitching-rolling dance. It's especially noticeable in aircraft with highly swept wings, like the TU-154. Pretty much every airliner with that kind of wing sweep has hydraulic yaw dampeners built in to help keep dutch roll tendencies from getting out of hand like that... I wouldn't be surprised if the whole problem was just a failed yaw dampener. There's an old (probably untrue) story about the infamous Tex Johnson saving a 707 in a similar situation by rushing up to the cockpit to help the overwhelmed crew stop Dutch Roll oscillations, which can apparently be a serious handful!

If God had wanted the army to fly, he would have made the sky brown.
If God meant man to fly, He'd have given us bigger wallets.
If God had meant for men to fly he would have made their bones hollow and not their heads.

Yeah, Lukla ranked as the #1 most dangerous airport in History channel's "Most Extreme Airports" special. Unfortunately there was a major crash there when a Yeti Air Twin Otter crashed right at the approach end of the runway in heavy fog. But there have been many more accidents at that airport.
