Formation Flying

Post by Bmontour26 »

First of all, I love this feature. My only problem is when I try to do a quick corkscrew, the formation separates. Is there any way to stop this. If not, does anyone have any other recommendations?

The AI are only so smart when it comes to holding a formation, and any hard, sudden maneuvers will send them all over the place. They could probably hold together for a corkscrew maneuver if it's pulled through slow enough, like the Thunderbirds, but don't expect them to make it through something like a full-stick aileron roll without going crazy.

With enough practice and knowledge of how replays work, you could also take the more difficult route and fly each plane in the formation individually. People like Airbourne and Coop have created entire airshow performances this way.

Fast movements, in any axis, will throw off the wingmen. This is true with both AI wingmen and player wingmen.

Try slower and smoother control inputs.

You can fly with your previous flight by doing Simulation > Select Aircraft after you finish a flight rather than Simulation > Create New Flight. With Select Aircraft, your previous flight will be flying as a replay.

You can also start with an AI formation, and switch to any aircraft in the replay and click Resume Flight. The rest of the aircraft will continue as before, but you can fly the selected aircraft

It looks very hard to do. I wonder how long it took him to do that.
