This has always been a taboo of maps. Along with a Hiroshima and Nagasaki map, New York Pre-9/11 map and London or Berlin WW2 maps.

I've never been sure why it's such a taboo, but the fact that Soji is Japanese, and this is a event in history that the Japanese are not proud of, could be seen as a little insentience.

Actually I pretty sure that some one did make that Oahu map a long time back.It had the Japanese fleet with wheeler field Ford island with the American fleet at anchor.I do remember flying in it and not being vary impressed.
But I can not for the life of me remember who did it but I am pretty sure the author was Japanese.

Meh, it's just a game. It'd be a neat map because of all the hardware that was there, and if someone takes massive offense to a controversial map in a video game then it's only happening because they want to be.

That sounds like a really fucking familiar sentiment that seems to get shot down often 'round these parts

Bwahahahaha. Secretly we're only doing it to make you bitter, then be hypocrites about it. It's a scheme so perfect I can even tell you about it and you'll never believe me.

Well, to be honest, I think it would be a good example of a Historical Map.
And that could be a new genre of mapwork. Even though aircraft were not
flying until the early 1900's, that does not mean that a static map of any
period of history could not be done. Imagine exploring a map of a battle
during the "War between the States", and being able to see the different
Armies in position; Philadelphia or New York during the Revolutionary War
(Lag possible); or the Napoleonic Campaigns; Why not even as far back as
Againcourt. History is still history. It would not be much different than
building a large diorama would it? The more detail one could include,
the more educational it could be. But, I think some might feel differently.
And here is a thought regarding a map of this kind: Has anyone modelled a
Segway yet?

I'm more concerned about frame rate issue with all the special ground objects needed to do the map justice. Those cage mast on some of the US battleships are a nightmare to model. (Tennessee class - Tennessee and California, and Colorado class - Colorado, Maryland, and West Virginia has them)

There's actually a real good midway map and a guam map somewhere I think.

I thought that one is Midway as it appears now instead of a WW2 Midway?

Iron Bottom Sound is easy to model, as most of the ships are in the bottom!

Suggest modelling a transparent mast with lines drawn on the transparency

Guam map was originally done by Kzs, but I can't get that one to work.

May I suggest of using Martin's detailed hawaii map. Its a little laggy, but I'm pretty sure downgrading it would do the job.

And we didn't have jets, either. I bet it isn't going to stop anyone from flying an F-22 around.

It might if they expect to be able to land that sucker within the confines of
one of the runways of that period. Carriers would probably allow them to land
but I don't think that there were any carriers within easy flight-range at that
time, were there?
But, hey, it would give someone an opportunity to put together a couple of
airports/AB's that were around at that time but are no longer in use today.
