Explain Kynan.

Note: Despite the ETA having passed, Neither the Northern Marianas nor the Marshall Islands have been hit.

Edit: State of Alert at one reactor, as the cooling system fails.

Just to say that I hope all our fellow Japanese YS fans are OK. I've already heard from Akira that he is fine.

Apparently all US servicemen in Japan are okay, but they're still finding bodies. I hope Hawaii and the West Coast of the Americas doesn't get hit.

God bless them, I give my condolences to the families, litterally can't believe it, 88,000 is alot of people, plus nuclear reactors? This could turn out real big. God bless.

I'm relieved to say that every other source has a lower death toll and a far lower number of missing.

Sendai is under water! And we know people that lie in sendai, lets just hope the best for them :(
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

Oh god.
BBC NEWS wrote: 2132: The Tokyo Electric Power Company has said radiation may already have been released at the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear plant.

2131: Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan has just announced that residents living within 10km (6.2 miles) of the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear station must evacuate their homes, according to the Kyodo news agency. Engineers are trying to fix the cooling system of one of the plant's reactors, which was damaged by the earthquake. The authorities had earlier told some 3,000 residents living within 3km (1.9 miles) to leave.
BBC NEWS wrote: 2139: Radiation levels at the damaged Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear plant are continuing to rise. The Jiji Press news agency says the levels are eight times above normal. Its report also cites a ministry official as saying there is a "possibility of a radioactive leak".

Those convergent boundaries are a killer. Being a geologist, when you see the amount of destruction in developed countries like this compared to others (Haiti), you really get a sense for how fragile we are. I certainly hope they get the man-power and resources there soon to help clean up and help the afflicted.

I hope the reactor is fixed ASAP... and I hope no one gets radiation poisoning; that would be a horrible, horrible way to die

Wow. Shit like this just shouldn't be allowed to happen, but it does. My condolences to all of the families affected, and god bless everyone who's missing - I hope we recover more breathing bodies than non-breathing bodies.

The nuke plant is a major disaster. That's a bfd. I hope the radiation doesn't hit Tokyo.

Edit:

http://edmonton.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local ... montonHome

Nuke plant just blew it's roof off. Radiation levels are up to 1k times it's supposed to be, but thankfully, the nuclear reactor itself was undamaged.
