1. Know 3D modeling.

2. Know how to use/make/edit DAT files.

To make a map, you will have to learn how to use scenery editor. The 2009 version is the best version for basic maps that are compatible with all versions of YSF since 2009. Newer versions have better options for use in newer versions of YSF. Making maps is pretty easy. Making good maps takes some time learning all the tools in the editor.

To make aircraft and ground objects: If you already know how to Blender, you're probably most of the way there. If not, you will have to learn to either use Blender or the 3D editors made just for YSF. I hope you studied Geometry and Trig. For those who wonder "When will we use this math in real life?", 3d modeling is among those times!

There are tutorials for both making maps and objects/aircraft. The way I learned was by taking them apart and seeing how they were made. I have done entire paint jobs on aircraft using Notepad. I never learned how to Blender, so I use gepoly and gepolyx from the YS toolkit.

Here is a link to a page of tutorials I have made.
